Has zero to do with Chrome! It's messing up across ALL apps. I've been trying to fix this for some time now and have explained in detail but still nothing but generic robotic replies. I'm sure they are aware of it but keep requesting details about it and what type of phone it is here. Complete waste of time. The only temporary fix is a fresh install, which works perfect for a few days. I was doing this every few days but now I'm over it. Glad to see though that it's not me! (as my gf says lol). Switching to another keyboard

I also had to change keyboard so I use swiftkey only on second Phone but I don't write to much on it. It is very strange that support cannot solve this problem. I asked some friends and each one has the same problem with SwiftKey.
And its not easy to record this problem becouse sometimes you can write long letters without this problem but sometimes it happens all the time.

Somebody mentioned that SwiftKey seems to want to predict completely obscure words and phrases that are neither relevant to the context of the intended response, or will insert bizarre text that isn't even English and is jumbled words and text.
It's like it's trying to show off, but it's not a good thing. For example when I try to get the word 'somehow', instead SwiftKey will insert things like Stonehenge or sommelier, both words that I've never used.
I agree with others that the algorithm has changed and it's more of a hassle than a help (help is almost always "Hello").
I'm an early adopter (Ajram or Ashley) according, (coding to SwiftKey), having purchased (orchard) long before it was free.
I'm going back to giggle (should hand (have) been Google keyboard.

After many years using swiftkey, and they basically have done nothing about this obvious issue, I switched to TouchPal. Love it

For now, SwiftKey is not usable. Number of wrong words inserted is terrible! I don't know why but after fresh instalation, bug not exists during first hours, days.
And then, each day is worse.

I tend to use gesture typing with SwiftKey, currently because my hand is broken, but usually I gesture type, when I'm lying in bed and using my tablet.  Currently, I am using the Beta version of SwiftKey for Android, because I became so frustrated with the keyboard app inserting words that were completely different from what I had gesture typed/swyped.  I have had no better luck with SwiftKey Beta for Android.  In addition to inserting completely different words than what I typed, and what showed up above the virtual keyboard as the correct word, the cursor jumps to random places in the text I have already typed, when I am trying to add new text at the end of what has already been entered.  Additionally, when I try to make corrections within already typed text, the cursor usually jumps to the end of the text that has been typed, but occasionally, it will jump to the beginning of what has been typed, or it will jump to another part of the text.  Another criticism I have regarding this app is that the app does not recognize words within the context of a sentence, so it often inserts the wrong word (i.e., "too" , when it should be "to").  This is my frustrating, to me, when I have typed the correct word and SwiftKey inserts the wrong word, which is most of the time.  In an attempt to correct these issues, I have force stopped the app, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, removed some of the other languages I was using with the keyboard, too prevent foreign words from randomly being inserted into English text and more.  I have turned off the auto-correct and word suggestion functions, however, the app still inserts crazy words into what I am typing.  All of these things have made using the SwiftKey app more time consuming, however, I have yet to find a keyboard app with which I am pleased.  If I were more knowledgeable about making Android applications, I would consider creating my own keyboard app, but I am not.  I hope you will try to figure out why the SwiftKey and SwiftKey Beta apps are not performing as they should and correct the issues, as I believe this app has the potential to be one of the best, if not the best, keyboard apps available for Android. Thank you.

    Anne

Same here.  Swiftkey is unusable because of all the wrong predictions. I read about Touchpal in this thread. Thanks! I'll try that.

Reading back over the comments, the people who are having issues with SK predicting random words, I have a few suggestions.

Seems like a language model could be corrupt, which is causing the weird predictions. As it stands, there are no internally known issues with predictions or our prediction engine.

I have a few things you can try, in order if one does not work, I'd try the next.

    1. SK Settings > menu > clear typing data
    2. Something more extreme: SK Settings > Account > Delete your backup
    3. Even more extreme: delete your entire account and start fresh

For 2 and 3, the plus side here is SwiftKey learns very quickly and you get to start off with a super fresh language model.

    @Ryan P

I did all that; started fresh, on a new phone, new installation, no account. Same result: constant word prediction and replacement. On multiple devices it is unusable.

It works only at the beginning after fresh instalation. After few hours, situation is the same.

    Frank and Hubert,

Any chance you could record a video and attach the file here or drop the link so I can see what is going on. This is very strange if it's happening with a fresh install with no account.

In theory, there should be no existing data on the device to make this happen.

Ryan I tried with no account and cleared data and it seems to solve this problem. I'm not sure yet becouse I had few mistakes but maybe these were my mistakes, not SK problem.
For now I can say that without account it is much bettet that with it.
But of course functionality is much worse.
How it is possible that such a lot of people have this issue and you can't find what is wrong with app?

I've tried this many times and as soon as it starts memorizing your predictions, it starts messing up again. So I started using TouchPal, worked excellent for about 2 weeks, now it's doing the same thing as swiftkey! Maybe same owners... I give up

Strange. Using my second phone, I noticed that only logging out from my existing account I can avoid 90% of annoing mistakes, even without cleaning typing data.
I had few mistakes but I'm not sure if it is becouse of application's bugs or my mistakes.
    So what is wrong??

By reading the last three comments, I assume (just assume, not a technical breakdown) that SwiftKey learned irrelevant content from somewhere of your account (probably facebook, gmail, etc), I suggest you to try to rebuild the personal dictionary by following these steps:

SwiftKey settings > account >delete personalized dictionary backup (or delete SwiftKey account to get a pure fresh start if you want), then log out of SwiftKey and reinstall SwiftKey.

Just be careful, delete the (cloud) backup will delete all words/phrases learned by SwiftKey from you.

But the problem is different. In the middle of first line you see correct word, you want to use it and then you see sth different in screen. So it is not important what was learnt by SK. Important is that your keyboard cheats you.
Second thing is that you dont have to clean data to improve situation.

For me, there is only one fix (until swiftkey actually fixes it :). When it starts putting the wrong word in after you clearly clicked the correct word, uninstall the app and re-install and it's perfect again for a while, then repeat. Don't clear memory as for me it didn't work. This time I re-installed and clicked during the set-up to NOT remember my words. This has nothing to do with predictions, which I leave on. What I believe is happening is SK is memorizing misspelled words, then keeping them in the file, then placing those words in place of the actual correct words that we click on. When I switched to TouchPal, it starting doing the same exact thing as SK, so with that app you can actually go into your list of memorized words and the list had hundreds of misspelled words! So far SK is working good but I will report back if it gets worse. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Bad news. After few days using SK without account and with cleared data, bugs with wrong prediction returned :(

Starting from yesterday, I have the same situation as before logging out.

So the solution is not working.

Same here. After 3 or 4 days it's starting up again. I just keep in installing and reinstalling it. It's a hassle but it does work flawless for a few days. It obviously has something to do with the memorized predictions even though I disabled it during set up. Idk hopefully the developers will read these and understand that it works perfect after installation, then starts behaving bad

Needed to make an account just to reply. SwiftKey autocorrect has become almost useless. In my experience, it was at its best about a year ago then quickly declined. It likes to remove the ends of words, recorrect words I've typed correctly into random gibberish, and in general the auto correct feature has become worthless. While typing this, it corrected "the" to "tee" every time. Ridiculous. Please fix this. Oh and reinstalling/clearing typing data works for 5 minutes at best. Most of the words it corrects to erroneously are not words I have ever typed. I have not given SwiftKey access to my email, contacts, texts, or any of that. It's always up to date. SwiftKey beta seems to work marginally better.

    Hi @Jwh,

Can you go into SK Settings > Menu > clear typing data. See if this has any impact. If it does not try this. Uninstall SK, reinstall > DON'T sign in. This may be frustrating as your personal language model is not there, but maybe try it for a few hours or days and see if the auto correct is still funky.

There could be something corrupt with your LM. A worse case scenario is you delete your Cloud account and start a fresh one. You can personalize from all the sources and have a pretty solid new language model up and running. This would be the last resort though.

We don't have any known issues with our auto correct or predictions.

Perhaps about 4ish months ago, we did introduce a less aggressive auto correct, so sometimes you'll see gibberish because we held back on auto correcting something we thought you meant to type.

I actually have never signed into an account on SwiftKey, it was too much work for me to set it up so I had just left it at the bare minimum with no sign in or personalization. Clearing typing data works briefly, for maybe 10 minutes, then it starts changing words I've typed correctly into nonsense again.

I feel everyone's pain. Reheating (regardless) of app, I'm constantly baking (king) (king) seriously... battling. I tried three times to swipe "battling" and the first suggestion was "baking" completely ignoring that my thumb went over the "t" key, then the next two attempts, it thinks I was trying to say "king." TWO TIMES! I watched my thumb clearly start out on the "b" key. WTF? I will offer this as advice to everyone... apparently, it works much better if you sit and slooooowly swipe to each letter of each word and slowly release your finger on the last letter. I only had to make one correction in that last sentence. Obviously, this directly negates the usefulness in most cases as people want to be able to type faster, but that's where all the mistakes are happening. It's annoying.

If the tech team is still monitoring this thread and really open to insight or flexible enough to consider that some average users out there are quite perceptive, I have a few possible suggestions for you to think about, clearly from a hypothetical point of view... call it my gut instinct, I usually trust that and it's gotten me pretty far in figuring things out.

    1) If swiping very slowly reduces the errors, why is that? I can type the same word twice, using almost the exact same swipe pattern, but if I type faster versus slower, errors occur. What are the subtle differences of nuances between typing slower or faster that determine which word to use?

    2) One word I continually have issues with is "for" turning into "fire" or "due." Despite how many times I type "for" versus how often I use due or fire (pretty much never, BTW)... those ones are for (I just swiped "about" and "for" was fed (placed) instead-God this is voting (annoying))!!! And I'm just stopping (swiping) at a moderate speed, not fast or low (slow). Try programming your engine to put pairs (emphasis) on it (truly) more common words... "For" its (is) WAY MORE COMMON than "due." In the same pattern, "for" should lays (always) take precedence over "due."

    3) As seen in the above number 2, I used a moderate swiping pace and still had many errors, what is glaringly obvious is that words were chosen that start with letters my thumb NEVER started out near. Ex: I stopped (urggggg swiped) "placed" and instead, it chose "fed." F and P are NOWHERE near recorder (each other) on the keyboard. It's almost as if SK totally disregarded the first part of my swipe and only registered the end of the swipe, despite me clearly seeing the trail starting at the top, right corner. Perhaps you have an algorithm that determines where in the swipe to start registering based on swipe speed. In reality, weight should be placed on where the swipe originated... assume people know where their words start. And "always" shouldn't be "lays" - again, completely opposite sides of the keyboard.

I see your dress (responses) in the forum here. Suggesting me (people) turn off for (core) features of tie (your) app. You say you can't locate (duplicate) a keen (problem). This parapsychology (paragraph) is literally getting worse as I'm typing it. As has been stated in less words elsewhere in this thread, maybe all these people are just hallucinating. Why don't you, as the developers, create a video collection page on your own site or app where you build in an easy way for people to submit recorded video of them trying to swipe. Why make them go out and do all the work of downloading screen capture apps because of YOUR technical problems? Don't make other people fix your mistakes, you own up to them.

The biggest problem now is that I have to use buggy Swiftkey becouse I really don't like Gboard.

It's amazing that our problem can't be solved during such a long period

I don't want to take away from this issue if there are still other people with it, but personally, for me, I haven't had a problem with swiftkey in a week or two. Was there an update in the last few weeks? If so, you did something right.

I see no support for users.
For now, the only solution for me is to return to version 6.4.8.
This one works fine, no bugs.
Maybe there are later versions working without bugs but I found this one in my download folder so after 2 weeks working on it, I can recommend.

    Hi!

Why do I need to manually correct swiftkeys suggested words. Over. And over. And over again.

It takes to long to fiddle with the SAME correction HUNDREDS of times!

Why isnt it made to learn my prefered selection of words.?

And why the Occasionally mix up between languages?

If anyone has a suggestion for a app that doesnt do these things but still will let me swipe the words, let me know. Cheers

I just got a new phone and noticed the strange suggestions SK is offering. I thought it was just because I am a new user and it was just learning my typing style. Hope it improves, because I have to be able to swipe!
