    Hey Ryan

Will this slow down typing using flow? Aside from that is it a welcome change in my eyes, as I didn't like flow not giving me an option for predictions which is where the majority of my speedy typing comes into play, options. It always lets me dictate the direction of the sentence rather than being stuck with whatever option comes next in the center slot. So, awesome!

This should't slow flow down, hopefully it does the opposite. There should be no slow down or really even a change if it predicts the right word. You just keep on typing, flow or tap and it inserts the middle prediction and a space. Where it should save time is if the wrong word is predicted. Rather than going back and tapping the word or pressing delete, you can just pick the right word from the candidate bar and then keep going!

I got the update today, and I have one thing to say: I hate it. It has KILLED my efficiency and speed. I hate that I don't get predictions now when I flow, and trying to capitalize the next word is exceedingly frustrating because I end up capitalizing the previous word instead. Maybe this was a good idea in theory but in practice it's awful. What was wrong with letting me backspace to get suggestions for that word instead of taking away my predictions? This doesn't feel like a step forward, it feels like two steps back.

At the very least you could at least make this feature optional so we can turn it off. I haven't even had it 12 hours and I'm extremely frustrated with it.

I agree with Rainyday2014.  I thought this was a bug.  But I'm willing to try it for a few days now that I found this thread and understand what's going on.

A few points of feedback, though:

    1. I assume this post is talking about SwiftKey Beta.  Shouldn't that have been mentioned in this post?

    2. Moreover, when I upgraded my SwiftKey Beta app this morning and read the "WHAT'S NEW" section, I saw no mention of this.  Can you please mention the updates in your releases?  That will help us play with them and provide better feedback.

    3. Is there an easy way to search for feedback and provide new feedback on the Beta directly from the app?  That would really help us help you.  I understand that I can access support from the app, but a specific section about the beta would make more sense.

    Hi Greg,

There are instances where we prefer to quietly roll things out. This was one of those instances. Even though we have this public post here, we wanted a quick place for people to drop their feedback if they noticed it and wanted to say something.

I have updated the text to include "beta" text - good call.

We wanted to keep these support forums simple, and decided to leave out "beta" specific sections, but we are not opposed to creating them given enough feedback and the desire to have them.

We just wanted to keep these support forums landing page as simple and easy to navigate as possible.

You are not the only person to mention this. These forums are currently the best place to drop beta feedback and bugs (unless we decide to make a beta specific section). Which most people seem to be a fan of.

I also appreciate you attempting to understand the feature and give it a go to see if the changes, while different at first, could end up being more helpful.

    Best,

    Ryan

Thanks for the quick response, Ryan.  I'll try to report back on my experience using the new feature... I have a hectic schedule lately, so if you really want my feedback and I haven't responded in a few days, then feel free to ping me.

Also, given Rainyday2014's response, you may want to consider making this an optional feature.  That's why I +1'ed her response.

    Hi Greg,

Feel free to give feedback when it makes sense for you.

I imagine more people will comment on this thread, that will then give you an email reminder to come back and leave your thoughts after a few days.

If not, I'll drop a note here on Monday, which will also trigger an email.

    Best,

    Ryan

    Hello Ryan,
This flow makes my typing a bit slower as compared to previous swiftkey experience.
I'm heavy swiftkey beta user, and would like to compliment the team that swiftkey flows all my correctly 99% of time. So hardly I have to choose other than what's shown.
The next 3 options are also predicted well.
With the new update, I'm being halted many times choosing the middle term.
Please make flow like it WAS, simply the best.
    (P. S. I rely on SwiftKey a lot, so before updating I back up the present version,
Meanwhile I'm downgrading swiftkey to 6.5.4.21 till the update :-)

Hope to see the flow back and healthy.

I also thought it was a bug until I found this thread.  I feel like it has slowed me down as well.  If all you are doing is "Flowing" then it might be slightly faster, but if you ever used the next word predictions, it kills speed and efficiency.

I feel that this was kind of an unnecessary change. It was very simple before to have 3 predictions for the next word, or just hit the backspace key and get to the other options for the word you just swiped.

I feel like my 3 options now are 1: get used to not using predictions at all anymore and just "Flow"; 2: get used to hitting the spacebar after every single word; or 3: get used to hitting the center prediction after every word.

I would much prefer this to be an option that could be turned off in settings or something.

The way swiftkey helps typing is so intelligent that all of its users have synchronized their digits+minds with the method, be it flow or prediction.
Instead of changing the way swiftkey types, why not move ahead like :-
    1. Whole sentence suggestions. From the three predicted words, what if we can long press our next prediction and get further suggestions for the complete sentence(or at least 4-5 words ahead)
    2. A theme where we can use our own background like that in Gboard.
    3. My personal feeling 😀, a flow trail as smooth as Gboard. At times I switch to Gboard only to feel the swype and then revert to swiftkey since swiftkey knows me very well now.

    Hello,
I've run into a bug, because of the new change in flow typing wherein there is no space inserted after each flown word.

    Conditions to reproduce :

-I have enabled the 'autocomplete word by tapping space' option on.
-I go to Google chrome and tap the search bar.
-I flow a word.. Suppose I flow 'SwiftKey'.
-there's a centre prediction, suppose 'Google'.
-then I flow the next word without tapping space.
-'SwiftKey' will be replaced with 'Google' when I start flowing the next word.

This is getting highly irritating. Can you just bring back the space after a flown word? I hope I do don't have to downgrade as you'll quickly address the problem and release a new update.

I just wanted to say that I absolutely hate this new horrible feature, get rid of it or make it optional and off by default.

Edit: Yep I couldn't take it, I had to switch to Gboard until Swiftkey reverts that feature and I hate Gboard!

I'm a huge Flow user when I'm on the go, and I can see pros and cons for this new method:

    1) When I'm flowing more than one word at a time, it's definitely helpful to see which words may not have been correct and easily be able to fix them instead of having to go back and edit each word individually. This increases my speed while correcting words, but decreases my overall speed because I'm consistently Flowing instead of using predictions (which happens naturally as I'm Flowing because I trust SwiftKey to get the words correct the first time so I don't have to stop and check on its progress...).

    2) If I'm Flowing one word at a time (which usually is more accurate, for some reason), I would much prefer predictions over corrections. The reason being because my overall speed is decreased compared to if I had simply typed out the word, because now I have to continue Flowing or hit the spacebar. i.e. I type a word, hit the spacebar, prediction. I Flow a word, and now I have to hit the spacebar to get a set of predictions whereas before I would automagically get a space and set of predictions.

While I like keeping simplistic settings for novice users, I would also like to see a toggle for this feature. It could have its own or even be integrated into the "Autocorrect" toggle where having Autocrrect 'on' would give the user a space and set of predictions after Flow whereas 'off'' would not include a space so the user can correct things more easily on their own.

    Hello Brandon,
That is very descriptive and true. I feel the same. Also, earlier, correcting a word was never that much a hassle (correction was rare) as it is now after having to press the spacebar every time. The removal of auto space makes SwiftKey more or less like Google keyboard. There's a reason I stick with SwiftKey and that's the auto space.

I also think that the new kind of flowing is not better. SwiftKey is so proud of the predictions, but now they don't show up anymore when using flow. for me, the best thing is this combination of flow and next word predictions.

This new feature really slowed down my typing and reduces my efficiency. I prefer predictions of the next word rather than correction of the current one. This functionality makes the quick period functionality redundant since i have to tap the spacebar in order to get the next word prediction. Sincerely, i will not use the keyboard if this feature will remain.

I would first like to point out that I am using the regular full version of Swiftkey, *not* the Beta, and the new flow has been rolled out to me.

I agree with everyone that the new flow is much worse. You have moved focus from predictions to corrections, which is not an improvement in efficiency. In order to see predictions now, I must confirm that I've flowed the current word correctly, which is an extra tap, rather than assuming I've flowed correctly, showing me predictions, and requiring the extra tap (backspace) if I need to correct. You've moved the extra tap to the wrong use case. There are also a few additional issues such as:

    1. How do i capitalize the next word? I'm flowing and my last flow was correct, and now I wish to capitalize the next word (say, a proper noun). If I hit shift, it capitalizes the last word. If I just tap or flow, then it's not capitalized. Example: "Yesterday I visited the State House."

    2. Hitting spacebar after a *correct* flow inserts two spaces. How do I stop this? Autocorrect is set to off.

    3. Punctuation is slightly messed up as well. If I insert punctuation (: ; / - + etc) after a *correct* flow, it auto-adds a space in between. It makes using colon, semi-colon, etc very awkward. Lots of backspacing. Is there a way to fix this? e.g. "To whom it may concern:"

    Do not want.
    1. Constant accidental double spaces.
    2. Trying to add onto the word I just swiped start s a new word.
    3. accidently Capitalizing the wrong word or multiple words.

Having entertained this new feature for about 5 days, I've now reverted back to using the non-beta.

As others have said, I value the predictions more than the corrections.  I'm happy to backspace to see corrections as needed.  But the real performance gain I get out of SwiftKey flow (as opposed to other keyboards with flow/swype and predictions) is the accurate predictions, especially when I know that the keyboard has already learned my prediction (such as when typing a mailing address).  So as Phil alluded to, since corrections already get me to the right word more often than predictions, I prefer the keyboard to focus on giving me predictions so that I don't have to use extra taps to confirm corrections as well.

Here are some related observations that might defend the new feature.  But I'm only adding this out of open-mindedness.  And if you end up keeping this feature, it better be a option and not the only behavior.

Depending on whether my last word was a flow entry or a prediction entry, this feature changes the way I interact to get to the next word.  I understand that if you group the concepts of "prediction" and "correction", then there is consistency with the fact that when you flow, you eventually have to tap each word in the correction/prediction bar.  But since I'm always focusing on the predictions to speed me up, I found it awkward that when I flow, I have to tap the word I just flowed, whereas when I predict, I can go right to the next word.  This may be due to muscle memory after years of using Swiftkey, so it would be interesting to study someone who is new to the keyboard.

Following from my last point, I found that in some cases, after I flow, the prediction bar was able to suggest both the corrected word and the next predicted word in the same tap (the feature that predicts the next two words at the same time).  That alleviates my concern about having to tap again to just get the corrected word.  But overall, it was still a degraded experience because this prediction didn't happen every time and technically, it reduced the number of predictions because the center spot is stolen by the new required correction feature.  And my brain had to think about that corrected word twice (or at least in a different way than I used to).

And finally, some people are complaining about the double-space.  I assume that's a bug.  That was getting in the way of my evaluation since I found myself constantly deleting extra spaces.

    Bonus:

The thing that slows me down the most with my typing is when I flow with the wrong first letter of my word of if I make a serious error when trying to flow a word.  I have my keyboard long-press response rate set to a very short time window, so I'm able to delete these mistakes quickly if I long-press the delete key.  But it would be awesome if there was a key that let me delete words more quickly than that.  It's the one feature I miss from before flow existed.  I used to be able to swipe from right-to-left across the keyboard to delete a full word, but obviously that was superseded by the flow feature because the keyboard wouldn't be able to tell if I'm flowing or deleting a word.  I'm sure you can find a creative solution for this and I look forward to it.

I like this version of Flow, however, there are some bugs.

    1) When I'm flowing, I'm flowing. I'm not stopping to choose predictions. I see predictions being used more for tapping, while corrections feel great while flowing. Seeing as tap typing is much more accurate than flowing, corrections for flow seems more appropriate.

    2) The capitalization bug is killing me. Say I want to capitalize each word of "Happy New Year".

Flow Happy. Then press shift. Flow New.

    "happy New"

    Press shift. Flow Year.

    "happy new Year"

Fix this bug and I'll be so happy!

Even the updated version has same spoiled flow. Please correct it soon. SwiftKey's flow was unique. Different from our other major keyboards. That is why your users are onboard constantly and not trying other keyboards.

Actually Gaurav, I'm constantly switching between keyboards and trying new ones because I find SwiftKey Flow's accuracy to be pretty poor. It always has been.

I really don't like this "feature". Like others have said, I thought it was a bug. I'd rather backspace to fix a typo (not common) than have to double space to insert a ".". Please allow this to be turned off.

Kenneth Brian Lambert, had settled with swiftkey after trying others, brother. Auto space was the one thing that made things bit quicker. Let's watch the next update. Or it's time to move on again in search of a better one
Frankly, is this page even monitored any more?
    P. S I do have a backup of previous flow version. Will use it for a while.

Another reason I don't like this new version, when I flow a word I see three predictions for the word I just flowed instead of it predicting the next word in my sentence. So it takes an extra tap to get my predictions.

I'd like to echo the sentiments of Rainyday2014 and Daniel Weis in this thread. This new feature slows me down overall. I've been using SwiftKey for years.

Capitalization is not intuitive; I end up capitalizing the word prior to my desired capitalized word each time, and have to resort to tap-typing capitalized terms. It's a lot slower and more frustrating typing process. I also often appreciated the next-word predictions, and now there is an extra step to see them (selecting the current word) and if I hit space instead, there's an extra space that I now have to delete before moving on.

I have to admit that I was someone who was really excited about this feature when it was first released. I use both Swiftkey and Gboard, and I really prefer not having the automatic space added between words, particularly when using gesture typing. However, there are some definite issues that have arisen with the current implementation. First, I find myself accidentally capitalizing the previous word constantly when I am attempting to type the next word. The only real fix to this issue is to eliminate the ability to capitalize the previous word when the cursor is at the end of the word. This is one of my favorite features in Swiftkey, so I hope that this feature isn't removed. The other issue, is that the option to quickly insert a prediction is now gone. I'm not someone who used this functionality all that often, however predictions are what Swiftkey has built its name upon.

Absolutely hate the way this works because it's forcing me to re-learn something that I had to spend time getting used to. And it's not fair since I paid for the app.
Please add an option to return to the traditional flowing style.

You have just killed the productivity of SwiftKey removing the auto spacing after predicting a word.
