Delete Options [suggestion]
تمت الإجابة عليهGreetings,
I've recently switched to Swiftkey because I'm having some problems with Gboard. The one major thing I miss from that, however, is its wonderfully simple and intuitive 'gesture delete' function. You should really, REALLY check it out to see why it's so much better than just pressing and holding the del key and hoping you can release it in time to avoid deleting more than you wanted to. This is particularly important on a system like Android that doesn't offer any ctrl-z type undo options. All you do is swipe left off the del key until the text you want to delete is highlighted, then release to perform the delete. If you swipe too far you just have to slide back towards the del key a bit first. Simple!
I also find it mightily frustrating that the last word entered by flow typing can't be deleted with a single tap on the del key. That's how every other 'swipe' type keyboard app I've tried works and it seems pretty obvious to me it's how it should be. I realize this has been asked before and rejected, but I'd urge you to reconsider and at least make it an option.
Hi there,
1) We have swipe to delete gesture. But you either have this on or gesture typing. You cannot have both. This can be found in SwiftKey Settings > Typing > Typing and Autocorrect
2) When it comes to fine-tuning the typing experience, people have different ideas as far as what would work best for them - there is no correct or right or wrong way of doing things.
Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for the quick response.
I was already aware of your swipe to delete option, but for anyone like me who uses gesture typing pretty much exclusively that's not a lot of use. Plus I'd argue it's more important to have that feature with gesture typing as that's when it's most likely to be needed.
I respectfully disagree that there isn't a right and wrong way to do things. The Swiftkey way of having to press and hold the del key just long enough to delete the word is both slow and fraught with the risk of deleting too much. To me that is objectively not as good, or 'right', as having a single tap option like every other keyboard.
Still, it's your app so it's up to you. I'm just saying these options I'm suggesting – especially the one tap word delete in flow mode – would make it a whole lot better and I doubt I'm the only one who thinks so.

Perhaps a way to have a delete word and swipe entry is to use swipe (space) to (SwiftKey or MoveLeft) as delete word.
The weak delete function is what keeps me from using Swiftkey as often as I would want. But alas they'd rather add more languages and needless UI tweaks and re-tweaks than add a proper delete function. Chrooma really blows this one out of the water when it comes to simple gestures like this.
Huge +1 to both of OP's suggestions! Gboard makes it super easy to swipe left from the Del key to select exactly as much text as you want to delete. Completely compatible with gesture-controlled typing (Swype/Flow). It's also mildly annoying (x 2000 instances = very annoying) to have to press-and-hold when you mis-swipe a word and none of the suggestions are what you were going for.
Some time ago I was using TouchPal and to delete a single word you simply swipe left starting from the delete key, is it possible to have this same feature on Swiftkey?
Every such deficiency is aggravated by the lack of an undo. What is it with android that this glaring omission remains unaddressed after all these years?
