Why is Swiftkey so much worse on iOS compared to Android
I've been using Swiftkey on Android since they days when you had to pay for it. Recently my job forced me to switch over to an iphone. The difference between the 2 versions is tremendous. Autocorrect works a lot more poorly but the main gripe I have is that you can't hold down a letter key to get every accent mark associated with it. Is there a reason for this? I continue to still use swiftkey since I'm used to the punctuation placement, but just seems weird that it works so poorly in iOS
Hi,
Thank you for your feedback, please share your ideas and feedback here https://aka.ms/sk-support and we'll be able to get it to the right team.
In the meantime, if you would like to have access to numbers directly on your SwiftKey keyboard, please go to your SwiftKey Settings and enable 'Number Row' - this will add the number row to your keyboard so you can access numbers easily.
I noticed the same thing. Used SwiftKey without issue for years on Android; now on iOS and see bugs every day.
couldn't agree more, also see other keyboards coming in with the missing features like haptic feedback and a number row. they're no threat to SwiftKey for now but I hope SwiftKey take note and bring the ios app up to match the android one.
I agree with Nick and John! This was the very reason that I came into this forum today... Looking for knowledge on how to activate the long press options on my iOS SwiftKey keyboard. I get so darn sick of switching pages back and forth in order to enter passwords and just enter texts. Try typing these for fun and see if you agree:
iPhone 4 was the only one that used the micro. 1 through 3 used the original. 5 through X use the Nano.
Or this one:
The 8, 8+, and X have the latest A11 chipset.
Both of those were actual texts to a friend of mine.
Anyway, I still love SwiftKey and I also believe the lack of long presses absolutely must be an iOS thing but maybe SwiftKey can convince apple to allow for the change.
Thank you for your time,
Jeff
No one has mentioned haptic feedback for normal key presses.
Same here. Huge disappointment.
*sigh* Why is this so hard to add? Is Apple not allowing it or something? This is definitely a productivity killer especially when I operate both an iPhone and Galaxy everyday.
Swiftkey on iOS is a total disappointment. It lacks way too many features that the Android counterpart had for years. Even simple things as, long-pressing the first row to type numbers, settings interface, prediction accuracy etc.
Once Microsoft bought SwiftKey I thought that this would finally get resolved at some point, but nothing has changed.
My theory to why the iOS version is so different from the Android version is because the iOS version was developed completely independently by another company and SwiftKey bought it and rebranded it so that they had a ready-made iOS solution.
I'm in the same boat as the OP; work forced an iPhone on me and the keyboard is sooooooooo poor, so I installed SwiftKey, and it's really no better. I've been using SwiftKey on Android for years and the long press for numbers, punctuation and accents are brilliant on Android, and almost totally missing on iPhone. To be honest, other than the use of people's data from presses and so on, I really don't see any point in SwiftKey on iPhone if that's all it can do!
@... Thank you for that link; I'll do as you suggested in terms of feedback. However, while I saw the "number row" option, I have an iPhone SE (2020 edition); enabling that option leads the keyboard to take up nearly half the screen, which just isn't feasible.
Hi John,
You are very welcome, thank you for your feedback on the number row too, this too has been passed on to our team.
Any update on when Swiftkey on iOS will catch up to the android version? It should work just like the android version 100%
Throwing my hat in the metaphorical ring here - I agree. I can't believe how much easier the Android version of Swiftkey was to use vs. this iOS version. Still, the iOS version of SwiftKey is better than all the other keyboards I've tried (and believe me, I tried most of them). I MISS LONG-PRESS SYMBOLS SO MUCH. COME BACK TO ME, BABY!
Ahem. Excuse me. Please add the long-press symbols to the iOS version. Really, what's the reasoning not to have it? Is it a limitation set forth by Apple? Because after scouring the app store to try and find any keyboard that includes them, there's little to nothing out there.
There's an app called ReBoard (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/reboard-keyboard-fonts-themes/id984982881), but it doesn't have swipe keyboard functionality. It allows for a "swipe up" per each key that'll allow special characters.
There's another keyboard called "SwiftBoard" (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swiftboard-for-iphone/id1279140614#see-all/reviews) that'll allow you to edit a keyboard to your heart's content for a price (I think it's either $5 or $10 USD) - but still, no swipe typing.
Sigh.
Come back to me, SwiftKey. I miss you so.
Hi Brettwyrick, thanks for your feedback. I have passed your feedback to the dedicated team.
While we can't action every individual idea, customer feedback helps us to guide the decisions we make around your keyboard.
I've been an android user all my life. But iphones have somewhat been catching up to androids in terms of customization (especially with ios 14 and ios 15; and the new iPhone 13 pro is the first iphone with a 120 Hz OLED display) so I decided it was time that I gave it try. But swiftkey really is just so much worse. Not only are the long press features gone, but the iPhone bar with the emoji and mic are still there making the keyboard higher in the screen (idk if there is any way to get rid of it that I'm missing). And I also can't change the hight of the keyboard itself! I can find ways to make the keyboard larger, but I want to make it shorter! (giving me even more screen space). This was a feature on the Android version that I'm also missing
I'm not sure if my final complaint falls in the realm of swiftkey or of ios itself, but I miss the feature on Android whereby you could long press at some point in text and then drag your finger and it would start selecting the text. To select text between two points in a body of text, I have to long press, then press "select", then drag to select.
I miss when swiftkey mady typing swift...
Still love you though because you're still the best <3
