    Hi there,

Make sure you read this article, the punctuation slider is the best solution for you, it's even faster than long-press on a key to enter question mark.

This will be the main reason I leave swiftkey. Having to long press THEN slide is a complete pain. Makes zero sense to me. If there are no plans to add a permanent spot for a question mark, without having to slide on top of long press, I'll go back to standard keyboard.

    @Aaron

Looks like you didn't read the linked blog article...

Please read it, and you'll see a more convenient way.

Not sure what you feel I missed - you still have to press and slide to get to the question mark. Perhaps you don't have to longpress as I said, but you still have to slide. When typing quickly, it becomes a serious issue, as a lot of the time I'll end up getting that line drawn between the M, K and L key rather than sliding to the question mark. On almost every other keyboard, the question mark is simply on a normal key, usually the M, and so easy to get to without having to take the time and look down so you can accurately slide.

I'm not sure how this was ever thought of as a "convenience" feature.

All you need to do is slide directly on the period.

I think you tried to say: on almost every keyboard, the question mark is a secondary key. Which you need to long-press to get it. I don't think there is a keyboard app has question mark as standalone one-tap key under normal QWERTY layout.

Most users think our way is just faster, no need to wait for the long-press duration, which is 300ms by default on most keyboard apps.

What do you mean by "slide directly on the period"? I don't know what to do, how do you slide?

I also don't understand why the question mark doesn't stay on the keyboard.. We have to write lots of questions daily.. Why do we have to swipe for that? Just out the question mark for an easy use please!!!

That's a great trick, really easy and faster than a long press if you know about it... Touch the period like you were going to type it and without lifting your finger or waiting move to the right. If you move your finger to the left instead you get an !

@alpert, it sucks that you didn't just give the answer in your first post,

    including a printscreen,

instead of being an ass because people didn't read your help articles.

I agree! The exclamation mark is in the wrong place. It should be on the "a" key.. Even if it is a long press, at least it would only be the only key that it selects.
The @ sign should also be on its own key.

The only one to ever get the keyboard right was HTC but then they had to go and use TouchPal Other companies should take note and get it right.

How hard would it be to make the space bar a tiny bit smaller and add a question mark by the period? Or, allow me to make the default symbol of the period button a question mark? Because that way I can at least double click the space bar to get a period.

I run into this as well. Attempting to place a ? results in ML or MM instead.

(PS: it's the slider that's the problem)

Why is the question mark not just above the m like most keyboards? The three ending punctuation marks deserve their own keys! Dismissing valid questions about this is rude and silly

I have my longpress adjusted to 200 MS. That's pretty fast. Slider is inconvenient, because you don't regularly use this jesture, while typing, right? Sliding the finger to make a question mark actually breaks the train of thought.

You have so many signs assigned to the keys, like #, =, $ and other signs which people use quite rare. Why is that such a trouble to assign a question mark to one of those AND leave it on the slider, if you value this solution so much?

Is there any way to just set it instead of full stop? After all double tap on space bar gives a full stop so what is the point in having it there?

Totally agree on the need for a question mark.

I'm curious as to how the research is done regarding usage, because I'm pretty sure that the majority of Whatsapp users for example post single sentences without periods, meaning that question marks are used more heavily than periods.  Only ellipsis and email/web addresses really call for periods.

There's an argument that you can use a single swipe for a question mark, but that means you have to configure your brain to depart from the normal tap or tap-and-hold and do a different action for a very common character.  I'm a touch typist and a PC gamer and even that is a mind twist.

I suggest any of the following settings configurations:

    • Be able to swap out the default punctuation character
    • Be able to add question mark as an additional key, since you have the option to remove the emoji key and make space for it
    • Be able to swap out any characters on the keyboard - why not just make it completely flexible?

There is a huge issue here - Swype users are going to start pouring in when they realize the keyboard isn't available anymore as they get new phones.

When you swipe from the punctuation key to the Space key (as Eric Savage is saying), you get an exclamation mark. Really? An exclamation mark? That's the default? This should be customizable at the very least.

Exclamation marks and Question Marks should be on a separate key than the period.

Without being able to swipe from a period to space or exclamation to space or questionmark to space, the flow is broken. You have to pick up your fingers or push-hold to continue typing.

Swype (even without support and syncing) is objectively a faster keyboard for typing more than short texts - even if for ONLY this reason.

It's time for Swiftkey to step it up, now that Microsoft is here...

This is sooo frigging annoying!  And a very stupid design decision!

@alpert, we're not typing on a "standard keyboard" when we're on our phones!  Just because it works with shift on a fullsize keyboard doesn't mean that it is a good idea on a phont!  In fact, this justification completely negates the purpose of swiftkey's very existence!  Your answer is not pertinent and rather myopic.

Why give priority to a character (the comma) that can be left out without much consequence when texting, at the expense of a question mark that cannot be substituted or left out?

I'm willing to bet that 99% of users hate this, many of whom find it very frustrating just because of the stupidity of this design decision.

The comma should be moved into the puctuation slider (because we're not composing well-formatted essays on our phones, we're friggin texting!).  That key should be placed on the right beside the punctuation slider, and made into a question mark. Perhaps a smart idea would be to regroup those, and question mark can have it's slider too, giving the exclanation mark as the first pop-up choice, and the upside-down question-mark for spanish users.  While the period has a slider with the comma on it for the long-press. Maybe even throw in a .com or @ onto those too, since the space is there.

But we ALL want a dedicated question mark in place of a dedicated comma.

It's not friggin rocket-science to understand this!

I simply don't understood why you just don't give the option to have the question mark fixed or slid able the way you have it. I am FED UP with getting MM all the time. PLEASE make it an option for the user. Don't like to be told that this is the best way, leave it up to the user to determine his or her best way.

This keyboard would be easily the best if you have that as an option as well as auto insert the correct word & removing the rest of the wrong word while replacing the error. The way almost every other keyboard does it.
