    Hi,

    Please attach:

SwiftKey version number, android version number, device model, and necessary screenshot/video clip

    when you report a problem.

I am on 6.6.7.24, downloaded Japanese and it is stand-alone besides English and French on my device. But it's true that there's only Romaji in Japanese typing. Was there more typing layout before?

Hello Alpert, thank you for your reply.

Swiftkey version 6.6.6.21 (I just checked on the Play store and I do not see an update)

    Android 6.0

My device is a HTC One M8 (2014) - Smartphone

    Attachments follow.

Japanese in Swiftkey has always had a Romaji layout, with no alternative layouts, to the best of my knowledge. The fact that you have to type in Romaji is not an issue to me (I use Japanese sporadically, can't really speak it, I'm learning it with Duolingo). What is an issue is that I can't seem to find a way to get to kana/kanji. If the prediction showed them I would be fine, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

Once, when Japanese had its own keyboard, so to speak, this was not a problem. But recently, as you can see on my spacebar, Japanese has become bundled with the other Latin-alphabet languages and from that moment on I had this problem.

Let me know if there is anything more I can do to help.

As an update, I tried removing the Russian language but nothing has changed, except my space bar does not show the languages anymore (as there is no more need to cycle through other alphabets).

    I see it now.

Thanks for the very detailed report.

Can you try the SwiftKey beta? It's with the newer version and normally it fixed some obvious problem of stock version SwiftKey.

    Hello Alpert,

I am struggling with free space on my phone, but I will give Swiftkey Beta a try later today.

Thank you for your support and let me know if this is a confirmed bug of some sort or if it's more likely to be a fault at my end (I can reinstall Swiftkey stable if that can help).

The problem is I don't have M8 to test, I have HTC 10 and U11.

I feel sorry to let user to test on their own but unfortunately it's the only solution to find out for now.

The beta version is stand-alone app, won't update current SwiftKey. And if you want to try a reinstall, make sure you forced a backup before.

Hello Alpert, thank you again for your reply.

I installed Swiftkey Beta. I can't seem to find an About screen for it so I wouldn't know what version it is.

With regards to the issue being discussed, Swiftkey Beta works just like I remember Swiftkey used to work and does not present the issue.

One difference I noticed is that in my current version of Swiftkey (stable), when I go to settings -> languages, I am offered a chance to change the layout for Japanese (between Dvorak, QWERTY, AZERTY, QZERTY, Colemak, and so forth). But in Swiftkey Beta, same screen, under Japanese there's written "ローマ字" (Romaji) and I can't tap to change it (by tapping, I disable the language). Which is what I remember the previous version of Swiftkey stable to behave.

I seem to think that something has changed in the way Swiftkey treats the Japanese keyboard, at least in the version I have installed.

Let me know if there is anything more I can do to help.

If you see other layouts like AZERTY in Japanese keyboard is not normal, I suppose.

Because even Romaji uses western language letters, but it's not for keyboard layouts like AZERTY.

In my opinion the beta fixed the problem, however I'll check the fact with the team so that I could be 100% sure.

Thanks again for verifying the problem. If you have further questions or requests, just let me know.
