+1 Without a predefined position it's impossible to use the smilies. The recent category is indeed rather useless. Smilies are way to similar. Your brain needs to know where they are for us to be efficient. Please let the latest used category be preselected as before!

What you are actually seeing is "emoji predictions"

Based off what you wrote, we pull the relevant emoji associated with those words. Are you not finding the emoji you are looking for in that panel with the crystal ball?

Yeah, I get that. But the order they appear in is totally random. So it's faster to change the category back to the regular smilies and pick the one I'm looking for. I mean I know exactly where they are since don't change position. The predictions are not really working. Maybe 1 out of ten times the correct smiley is in the top left. The other 9 times I have to scan though a random page of smilies to find the correct one.

Maybe the feature is better suited for people using a lot of smilies from different categories. I would be happy if you can at least have an option to go to the last visited category instead of always ending up at the predictions. The idea behind it is nice, but I think it's to complicated to predict smilies since there are no "grammar" behind how you use them. I'm not especially consistent when using them. I don't blame you for not being able to predict them! 😉

Yea, we understand that. The more the feature is used, the more data we get and these can be improved.

Every emoji has at least one key word associated to it. You can find them on emojipedia.com (or similar).

Your feedback here is appreciated. Thanks for being beta testers and providing feedback.

How can this feature be eliminated? I posted this on February 20 "Whenever I go to insert an emoji in the beta keyboard, it lists the phrase and suggests ~30 emoji to choose from. It also states that it is a beta feature. This started about a week ago after an update. This is extremely annoying! Please remove it! When I want to insert an emoji, I know what I want to insert! I don't need SwiftKey to provide me with suggestions. I have stopped using the beta keyboard because of this!" You said that the comment is closed and inserted a link and said to follow it  - the link was circular and took me back to my post  https://support.swiftkey.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360001376525-Emoji-prediction-in-latest-Beta-update-   Is there any update to this?  I extensively use emoji and because of this, I have stopped being a valuable beta tester. There is one feature of the beta that I like over the normal but I can't comment on it because I can't follow up on it.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks for you help!

Need to be able to either turn this prediction feature off, or reorder the icons so that the "most recent" icon is always the first. I hate picons only use text ie ":-)"
These are in recents but never in predictions. Exactly +1 to the above, it adds additional clicks to avoid the behavior. Glad to see others comments. Don't try to devsplain it, eh? This is the feedback you're looking for! :-)
Stupid smiley faces are not my style, eh?
    Thanks.

I agree with the major on this post.

The emoji prediction tab that opens by default is not relevant to me, and quite frankly, wastes my time since I then have to switch to my other tabs.

Please make this feature optional, as many people don't wish to use it.

I want SwiftKey to revert to opening the last emoji panel I used, which will always be Recent. Furthermore I want it to revert to storing my typed emojis to Recent. I only type emojis such as :-) and ;-) and don't want to select them from a gallery of images.

The problem is that not all of the emoji that I am looking for are located when the "crystal ball" pops up.  It doesn't know my mind. I know what I want and I know where to look for it. I don't need an algorithm to tell me what I want.

I hate this feature to the core. It may be my least favorite part of swiftkey yet. Just because the text is related to an emoji doesn't mean I want to use those emoji. My emoji usage doesn't follow grammar/vocabulary rules. 99.9% of the time the predicted emojis are not relevant to what emoji I actually want.

If only you could make it predict based on my usage habits instead of the associated words... OH WAIT YOU ALREADY DO IT'S CALLED THE RECENT EMOJI PANEL. Just make it the default panel again. The current layout just adds additional steps for me because the prediction panel is just useless.

Fact! When other keyboards offered new features, I stuck with SwiftKey. When Samsung updated their keyboard with new options, I stuck with SwiftKey. Now SwiftKey has most of the features they offer, with the added benefit of uncanny predictions. But SwiftKey folks, this ONE "feature" is making me consider something else. I don't use many emojis - I prefer to actually use words to communicate. I use very few emojis over and over. All I want is for the emoji menu to default to Recents and not SwiftKey's half-baked ideas of what I want to use. That creates an attitude that SwiftKey is smarter than I am: and few things will get uninstalled faster than that.

I find the emoji prediction tab annoying and useless. I wish there was an option to deactivate it. It seldom has the emoji I'm looking for. In the last used section I do usually have what I want.

Many of the comments above describe my difficulties with the UI well. Please get rid off it or at least make it optional @swiftkry

The fast emoji or quick emoji feature is the shittiest thing ever. Why make it default? I have all the emojis I use in my muscle memory from the list that contains them all. This is the stupidest everyday life changing thing ever. I'll use the stock Google keyboard soon if this shit doesn't get fixed. Thank you.

Let os pin what panel/category we want to use. I always use recent so useless now to have to switch to recent every time.

Please allow us to choose which tab it defaults to in the emoji tab. I like your application but that is souring me to it.

I think the feeling is unanimous here, get rid of the crystal ball, or at the very least keep it only as an additional option and go to the last emoji tab that was opened like it was before this stupid update. I've always loved SwiftKey from the day I found it and recommended it to lots of friends, but this really makes me wonder  if I will continue to do so.
SwiftKey has been great in being flexible and adaptable but this is in the best tradition of software companies who think they know what is best for you. Down with the crystal ball! 😠

In addition to that, in the settings I find a new option "emoji predictions" and thought this could turn that feature on or off. But though the option is turned off I  still get to the crystal ball every time. I could live with this if I could turn it off, but the turning off does not work (if it is even supposed to do this)

Now the feature is on the latest upgrade of the normal version of SwiftKey. Time to give it a 1-star rating and move on to another keyboard. So much for them listening to their beta users!

I totally understand why there is this thread. No option to turn it off results in unnecessary extra clicks - the opposite of the usual SwiftKey sense.
Please make this prediction optional again, it destroys my SwiftKey experience and other's as well as you can read here.

Please either remove this feature or give an option to change it. It's dreadful. It doesn't appear to be showing anything relevant I was confused what it was even intended for until I read this thread.
I'm so used to just selecting from my recents and now it's an extra click away every time. Not cool.

I'm with the majority. It's a neat feature but that it defaults to the predictive page every time has me looking at other keyboards. I know exactly where all the emojis I use are without having to search them out or switch tabs every time

SwiftKey folks, are you seeing the trend here? We're your most ardent, enthusiastic supporters. We beta test your app and have login credentials to provide feedback for improvements. Think of the millions of users who don't go to the lengths we have! That said, SwiftKey is a phenomenal keyboard with a horribly fatal flaw. I hope you'll take our comments on board or you risk losing a whole bunch of users like me. I don't know about the other users here, but I will graciously extend my patience until the end of April. Hopefully SwiftKey will roll out an update allowing users to set Recents as their default emoji tab. If you insist, however, on forcing the emoji predictions on us, though, you can do that... but know that I will drop my 5-star review on Google Play to a 2-star review and uninstall the app.

How is it fixed? I'm still having the problem on BOTH the Beta and Normal keyboards! I'm following the guidelines of Wwwilkie1.  Fix it by April 30 or I'm gone.

As of this evening it is defaulting to the recently used tab, as it used to. I didn't do anything to get it that way.

Wow! Totally agree with everyone here! My SwiftKey was just updated and saw this change. Another bad change right after they buried the incognito tab. It just keeps getting worse. I would change but I haven't found another keyboard that has a number row and cursor keys on the main panel. Does someone know of another keyboard that does? Once I find that I'll drop SwiftKey because I'm tired of this. The one hope is if they change back like they did when they removed many themes. Remember that fiasco?

Yeah, I see that this feature can be usefull for someone, but you shloud definitely provide an option to turn it off. I really want the Recent Emojis panel to be first as I use the same emojis most of the time.
