SwiftKey does not have the option to hide the app icon.

Please make sure it is not some setting inside other apps caused it. I suggest to check the launcher app at first.

The issue is I don't have the swiftkey icon showing on my home screen or app list.

It was pre  installed so I don't have its launcher.

By the "launcher" I meant the homescreen app.

e.g. Samsung uses TouchWiz Home, HTC uses Sense Home, etc.

Swiftkey shows in settings under languages and input, but there is no settings once I'm in, only languages, themes, typing and account.

I don't have anything called swiftkey in the homescreen.

I would like to ask 2 questions:

    1. Can you find the setting of your home screen? Because the app icon could be hidden by accident by your home screen app, which is not controlled by SwiftKey
    2. Which setting you want to make a change? Because the 4 buttons you've mentioned above are all SwiftKey settings.

Please contact your phone retailer or OME for more help.

So far from the information above, it is not a SwiftKey problem.

Sorry we could not help more.

Do I really need it on the homescreen?

In settings I see languages themes typing and account, is that all that I should be seeing? That's all I need to know as I can get to its setting just by bringing up the keyboard.

    Hi James,

Since SwiftKey is pre-installed, some phone makers decide to not want SwiftKey to show up un the list of apps.

Sometimes we add a setting to turn it on.

Open SwiftKey settings from within the keyboard > press the menu button or the three dots in top right corner > there *might be* an option to show SwiftKey app icon there.

May I ask why it's important for you to have the app icon visible?

    Thanks,

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,
I have the option that you mention already selected as per my OP but doesn't appear to show the icon on the homescreen.
It's not important as I can get to the settings via the keyboard, my main issue is even when I have it selected to show the app it doesn't actually show it after all.

My partners phone has the same issue so it must be normal although she has Nougat and I have Oreo.

    Hi James,

Thanks for checking that. As SwiftKey in preinstalled, phone makers most of the time want custom behavior. It seems in this case, they do not wish to have the app icon visible.

I can confirm with my team if this is a bug or not. I will need to know what make and model you have.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Hi, when you say make and model, are you referring to the phone?

    Hi James,

Yeah, the make and model of your phone. So I can run this info by our partners team.

This question has not been answered.
Did you hear back from the team as there was a swiftkey software update today and the add app icon still doesn't make the icon show on the list or home screen.

I was told that toggling that setting may be slow, but it should work.

SwiftKey settings can still always be accessed from the keyboard directly.

What do you mean by it may be slow?

I can tell you that it doesn't make the swiftkey icon show anywhere no matter how long you wait.

Android 8.0 on XA2 Sony Xperia.

If you ticked the box and it has still not showed up, it wont be working. It's probably a bug.

    We will investigate.

I can confirm the box is ticked to show the app icon but doesn't show as an individual app icon.

    Thanks in advance.

There is no need to ever have the swiftkey icon on your homescreen. Every feature you need to access on swiftkey is in the Gear icon in the swiftkey app itself! What need do you have to change in swiftkey so frequently that you need the app icon? I've never had to use it once, as all the features are available on the keyboard itself!
