Switching keyboards
AnsweredIs there a button that allows you to easily switch keyboards? I use another keyboard for programming and would like to switch between the two. The programming keyboard and a few others (gboard) you can hold the spacebar to list all of your keyboards if you can add this feature if such does not yet exist. Thanks!
While SwiftKey itself does not have a button to switch between keyboards like Gboard does (you'll use the spacebar to switch between languages here), there are a couple of Android-level options, depending on your device and Android version:
While I personally don't see this becoming an option in the near future, you are more than welcome to submit a Feature Request Ticket so that the team can look into this further. 🙂
This should be added as a feature. On my OnePlus 6T running Android 9.0 there's no easy way of switching keyboards when you are in swiftkey. Using navigation gestures to navigate my phone means I have no on-screen navigation bar, and there are no capacitive buttons.
Feels like the evolution of android phones makes it important to add a feature where you can change keyboard from within Swiftkey
Seconded. I have a need to constantly switch between my gboard and SwiftKey. Constantly having to go into my phone settings, keyboards and change it from there which takes like five or 10 seconds just because SwiftKey doesn't want to add an extra tiny little button to give you a pop-up to do this is really annoying
2 years have passed and we still here asking for a tiny function. Is it that hard to implement? Microsoft, like, always listening but never do anything follow their user wish.
Hello guys. I'm posting this while switching between Gboard, Swiftkey and Old Keyboard seamlessly on my OnePlus 6T. . . The "secret" lies on the tiny keyboard icon on bottom right corner. I haven't tried to duplicate the experience with my other Android devices though while this was never an issue on my iPhone XR and my other Apple phones and iPad.
This "secret" is no help when using gesture navigation, there is no navbar and therefore no tiny keyboard icon.
Well, the "secret" also not work if you enable the Accessibility Menu in Android setting (on Android 9, I didn't test it on others version), the Accessibility icon will overlay the switch keyboard button, that's why the "hold spacebar to switch keyboard" is a must have feature.
@Baustad... look up and pull down the notification bar/menu and you'll see the option to switch from there. I just tested just now and it's there. But again this is for my OnePlus 6T on Android Pie...not sure what your brand/model is.
@Tofu chan... have you sent Swiftkey a request about that yet?
I'm blocking all notifications from Android system, so the notification isn't there when pulling down notification center. Sure I could enable these notifications, but that has nothing to do with my wish for Swiftkey to include an option to natively change keyboard. Surely an option like this would only make the app even better?
I'm using XZ2 and there's no notification to switch keyboard. I did search through the phone settings to find it but no luck. Well, I really need that feature.
I also find having to go to the system settings annoying. Neither of the aforementioned methods work with my phone, a Moto G5 Plus. I rarely use SwiftKey anymore for this reason and I no longer recommend it, as I had for years.
SwiftKey, please listen your users! Add gear icon ⛮ on space and when swiping left of right (to change Languages we added to SwiftKey - also add one simple LINE! - called - CHANGE KEYBOARD)
The official comment is incorrect. There isn't a notification or a button in the lower right corner.
It's been 4+ years, so it's pretty clear it's not happening.
So long Swiftkey.
My workaround for this is to get the keyboard switcher app from Google Play, enable a "floating button" (tap it so the keyboard manager window will pop up) in it, plop the button at the *very* corner of the screen (I prefer the lower left one) and set it to invisible if having a visible floating button bothers you. Adjust the size if needed, so it won't lay over controls or keyboard buttons. Boom! Instant always on call keyboard manager that you can trigger, no matter which keyboard or navigation system you're using.
You can also set it to be triggered by actions and gestures via Tasker and any app shortcut creator app.
