Why is Swiftkey so much worse on iOS compared to Android
I've been using Swiftkey on Android since they days when you had to pay for it. Recently my job forced me to switch over to an iphone. The difference between the 2 versions is tremendous. Autocorrect works a lot more poorly but the main gripe I have is that you can't hold down a letter key to get every accent mark associated with it. Is there a reason for this? I continue to still use swiftkey since I'm used to the punctuation placement, but just seems weird that it works so poorly in iOS
Hi,
Thank you for your feedback, please share your ideas and feedback here https://aka.ms/sk-support and we'll be able to get it to the right team.
In the meantime, if you would like to have access to numbers directly on your SwiftKey keyboard, please go to your SwiftKey Settings and enable 'Number Row' - this will add the number row to your keyboard so you can access numbers easily.
I noticed the same thing. Used SwiftKey without issue for years on Android; now on iOS and see bugs every day.
couldn't agree more, also see other keyboards coming in with the missing features like haptic feedback and a number row. they're no threat to SwiftKey for now but I hope SwiftKey take note and bring the ios app up to match the android one.
I agree with Nick and John! This was the very reason that I came into this forum today... Looking for knowledge on how to activate the long press options on my iOS SwiftKey keyboard. I get so darn sick of switching pages back and forth in order to enter passwords and just enter texts. Try typing these for fun and see if you agree:
iPhone 4 was the only one that used the micro. 1 through 3 used the original. 5 through X use the Nano.
Or this one:
The 8, 8+, and X have the latest A11 chipset.
Both of those were actual texts to a friend of mine.
Anyway, I still love SwiftKey and I also believe the lack of long presses absolutely must be an iOS thing but maybe SwiftKey can convince apple to allow for the change.
Thank you for your time,
Jeff
No one has mentioned haptic feedback for normal key presses.
Same here. Huge disappointment.
*sigh* Why is this so hard to add? Is Apple not allowing it or something? This is definitely a productivity killer especially when I operate both an iPhone and Galaxy everyday.
Swiftkey on iOS is a total disappointment. It lacks way too many features that the Android counterpart had for years. Even simple things as, long-pressing the first row to type numbers, settings interface, prediction accuracy etc.
Once Microsoft bought SwiftKey I thought that this would finally get resolved at some point, but nothing has changed.
My theory to why the iOS version is so different from the Android version is because the iOS version was developed completely independently by another company and SwiftKey bought it and rebranded it so that they had a ready-made iOS solution.
I'm in the same boat as the OP; work forced an iPhone on me and the keyboard is sooooooooo poor, so I installed SwiftKey, and it's really no better. I've been using SwiftKey on Android for years and the long press for numbers, punctuation and accents are brilliant on Android, and almost totally missing on iPhone. To be honest, other than the use of people's data from presses and so on, I really don't see any point in SwiftKey on iPhone if that's all it can do!
Deniz K Thank you for that link; I'll do as you suggested in terms of feedback. However, while I saw the "number row" option, I have an iPhone SE (2020 edition); enabling that option leads the keyboard to take up nearly half the screen, which just isn't feasible.
Hi John,
You are very welcome, thank you for your feedback on the number row too, this too has been passed on to our team.
