[Fixed in 7.0.2] Emoji opening up to prediction panel is not what I like
CompletedWith the lastest update came a big issue for me. When i want to add smiley i need to choose category first, because it shows recent sent smileys first. I dont know where smileys are actually posited so its completely unuseful. I want to set default category to usual smiley faces as it was before, but i cant. Thats really bad. I need to do one press more every time.
I'm still hopeful that the 7.02.15 version will roll out to Google Play soon, and I'm pretty sure that it will roll out on the beta app, not the regular version. Is there a way to backup my data from the regular version and restore it to the beta version? I'd hate to think I have to start over again...
Just posting to agree with most others. Let it go back to defaulting to the standard emoji tab. I do not want it to be predictive or recently used. I know where what I want is located and this actually makes it less efficient. I can see why you may have thought otherwise...
...but you were wrong.
Hello everyone,
We've heard the feedback. We have a change happening with 7.0.2 which is currently slowly rolling out.
When you get this new version, the emoji panel will default to your last one used.
Thanks again for providing your feedback and patience while we made these changes.
Best,
Ryan, SwiftKey Community Manager
Thank you for listening to us! Like a stated in the beginning. The feature may work for others, or me in the future when it's been more optimized. But we all have different habits. I like to learn where stuff are and then optimize my flow based on that. Not knowing where stuff are or look through the predicted emojis only to find what your looking for is not there, so you have to go to it's tab anyway just takes longer time. But as long as it's a choice I'm fine with you keeping it there.
Ryan, THANK YOU and the SwiftKey team for taking our comments on board for what they are: not just griping, but genuinely (and passionately) dedicated to keeping SwiftKey the absolute best keyboard app in existence! I know I'm not alone in anxiously awaiting the update, as no other app even comes close! You guys are awesome!
Another thank you Ryan, for listening to us! Looking forward to the update! Having the default be the last one used is a great solution.
We understand. We put the feature right in the front for a bit to help it get some exposure. This feature should continue to get better and better over time with improved models and feedback.
As stated and as we know. Not everyone uses emoji in the same way. Some are literally, some use emoji as inside jokes that wont be picked up by prediction feature.
You'll have your default feature back soon.
Thanks for being vocal and understanding why we continue to try and push the boundaries of mobile communication and AI technology.
Thank you Ryan P!
This is MUCH appreciated. Seriously! Thanks for hearing our opinions and finally getting back to us.
Yeah! 👏👍I'm assuming that the changes will also be made on the beta version.
Thanks! 😃🤗🎆
Awesome that you are taking feedback seriously! Thanks for changing it back to "last used", that's probably the best for everyone.
If you haven't received the update, just go to akpmirror.com and download it. That's how I did it too, and all is peaceful in emoji land now 😁
I haven't received the update through the play store yet, had anyone else?
it is slowly rolling out... the full roll out should be happening shortly.
Thanks Ryan, just got it.
Come guys! You turned this on by default again? I thought it was pretty clear that this is super annoying? Why don't you just keep the last tab? If people are using the predictions tab they will get back to it anyways. STOP ENFORCING A SPECIFIC TAB EVERY TIME.
@Jon Wallsten What version are you on? I'm on 7.0.6.27 an it works fine. The last used tab opens up by default, as it should do.
I'm on 7.0.7.22. Got it less then 24 hours ago. The release notes states that the emoji prediction is no longer in beta.
On 7.0.7.22. If I left the keyboard on the last used emoji tab, it will open the last used emoji tab next time.
However, if I left the keyboard on other categories (e.g. smileys & people, animals & nature, etc), opening the emoji page will default to the emoji prediction tab again.
@Rob K does this happen to you?
@neekless I'm on 7.0.6.27. I'm a fan of betas, but I Swiftkey beta had so many bugs at a time, I just went back to the stable release. I really hope this totally useless emoji prediction tab push doesn't get into non beta. Having the tabs default to last used is the most logical, and least intrusive way to have the app work. Imo the whole emoji prediction is a waste of R&D and is more frustrating to users than useful. Also it's totally redundant. The most used emoji tab will supplement it almost fully.
Hopefully devs read this thread still, and don't force it on us...
The same thing is now happening to me again! Time to switch back to the standard keyboard until this is eliminated! Why are you doing this when there was such an uproar? If it happens on the standard keyboard, I'm permanently leaving SwiftKey!
Hello everyone,
based off testing and feedback, this is how the behavior now works.
If you open the emoji panel to anything besides "recents" the emoji panel will default open to the prediction tab.
That's really too bad! Ans you guys can't even bother to make it optional with a setting? I would hate to get a new keyboard app after 6 years. But I can't really get used to having to manually switch tab every. single. time. I'm going to add a emoji. I don't even know how you guys can defend adding an intrusive UX feature like this when people clearly don't want it.
I agree, especially since I'm one who uses emojis all the time. If you can't make a setting to turn the prediction feature off 📵, then I too will have to find a new keyboard after using SwiftKey for 4 years😥
Please listen to your lead users!
Shouldn't we start an other thread on this!? I mean it says "Fixed" in the title right now, so I don't think many SwiftKey developers are reading these comments
@Ryan P Why did you guys change it?! After sooooo many complaints the first time around, you finally made it acceptable to us, then you changed it back! WE DON'T WANT YOU TO PREDICT EMOJIS FOR US! I DON'T CARE WHAT TAB I'M ON. Please put it back the way it was! I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but with you making us always go to the predictions there seems to be some underlying reason for it.
@Ryan P I would like to know where you got the feedback from because from what I see NOBODY likes the predictions tab. The emoji predictions tab is easily the worst thing to happen to SwiftKey in its history.
@Rob K I have started another thread here https://support.swiftkey.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360012120386-Emoji-prediction-tab-issue-again
I'm starting to lose faith in Swiftkey. I've been using Android phones for more than 5 years and everytime I got a new phone one of the first apps I download is Swiftkey. Swiftkey used to be the king of predictive keyboards, no fuss and no hassle.
But lately they've been making terrible decisions that just plainly makes the keyboard more frustrating to use. Microsoft really is ruining Swiftkey. Maybe I gotta give Gboard a chance.
@neekless That seems like something Microsoft is good at. They buy popular stuff and make it worse. It's was the same story with Skype. It would be so simple to add a setting for it to please us and I wouldn't care if they force it down the thought of the other poor users. I guess we have to wait and see in the review section in play store.
As suggested, lets move to the new thread. I will be locking this old one.
