Problems with SwiftKey keyboard placement and OnePlus Gesture Navigation
AnsweredHi - I have a OnePlus 7 Pro running Android v10, set up for gesture control. As such, I no longer have any navigation buttons on the bottom of my display.
I am having a big problem with SwiftKey, where the keyboard can't be moved to the bottom of my display:
Aside from losing valuable screen real estate, this causes a lot of SwiftKey failures for me.
For example, If I am trying to type with the space bar, or enter key (or, any of the bottom keys), and accidentally hit just a little bit lower than the bottom row key, SwiftKey registers it as a "close keyboard" event, and I lose whatever I was typing. This is a HUGE pain in the rear!
Please update SwiftKey to allow the keyboard to be located at the bottom of the screen when the user has selected a gesture navigation method. Note that there are multiple manufacturers that have their own version of gesture navigation (like OnePlus), so the solution should be generic enough to detect that any gesture navigation implementation will allow the keyboard to be located at the bottom of the screen.
Thanks!

The blank area is added by OnePlus, not SwiftKey.
I invite you to post in OnePlus forum.
Hello, I have found this same problem on a OnePlus 6, immediately after changing from Android 9 to 10.
There is a blank space at the bottom of the screen, as shown by the original poster above.
I haven't changed any settings, the problem occurs both with Andro 10 stock gesture support and OnePlus ' original gesture support.
The blank space is actually smaller than what is used for the navigation keys when I change to that.
Oh, yeah - If I remember right, the SwiftKey keyboard did go down to the bottom of my display when I was running Android 9 on the OnePlus 7 Pro.
So, this is likely to be an Android 10 related issue.
Same issue here. On 9 it was fine. Just updated to 10 and it is really annoying. Keep trying to search stuff and bam, all text is gone. 😩
Hey. Same issue here. I also have blank space on every app with SwiftKey. Please fix this!

Alpert - You are correct ... I selected the GBoard keyboard, and it shows the same gap.
Sorry about pointing the finger in the wrong direction! I will start posting on OnePlus. I suspect I will see other posts on this topic there.

AzJazz:
Thanks for your confirmation.
It's okay, there's no fault of asking questions when we see problems. Feel free to do so!
Some extra info: actually the blank area is a feature, intentionally designed like this, to hold the phone while typing more ergonomically by shifting keyboard upwards a bit, so the center of gravity of your phone is always in your hand. It's very common for full display devices: you can see the same design on various devices, including Google Pixel (2 and later than 2), iPhone (X and later than X), and etc.
Update: I found a solution on the OnePlus Forums, but it may not be usable for everybody.
You need a rooted phone. If you don't know what "rooted" is, I'm sorry - I won't be able to explain it to you.
With your rooted OnePlus phone, you will need to install a Terminal Emulator application. There are lots of options out there.
Done! The SwiftKey keyboard is now located again at the bottom of your screen.
Cheers!

Cool.
Just for info, here's a non-root method but you need to install this app [FNG] and type some adb command (which is explained in the app description) to hide the system nav bar and use FNG to navigate.
