Why does SwiftKey Cloud want to Read, Send, Delete my Email?
RespondidaI want to connect my SwiftKey account with my Google account, but SwiftKey is asking permission to "Read, send, delete, and manage your email." I understand that SwiftKey needs to see what I'm typing in Gmail to analyze my typing patterns, but why does SwiftKey need to "View, manage, and permanently delete your mail in Gmail"?
Hi Kyle,
Even though the permissions listed are more than necessary, we do not actually take any of those unrelated actions.
I have brought this up to the team and we should be updating our API to only ask for the right permissions in a future update.
We do take data and privacy very seriously.
Thanks, Ryan. I figured it was just canned text, but thought you guys should know that it comes off as a little aggressive. Thank you!
It does. And that it something we don't want to come across as. I created a bug ticket to have it looked into.
Thanks for bringing it up.
Agree with the requested permission. Glad you guys taking a look into it.
Any update on this? It's been a month and a half, it shouldn't take that long to change permissions.
It seems these permissions have led to leaked email addresses and phone numbers. You're saying all the right things, "we value privacy" and all that good stuff, but actions speak louder than words.

Why is there only Facebook and Google sign in. I know these are popular for signing in but what if I don't want you to be able to read my emails. Toy are basically owned by Microsoft now right?why no Microsoft or the own login option?
The change will be coming. Even though the permissions mention reading, deleting, we do not take these actions.
We will only scan emails if you decide to personalize from your email, which is a different step.
We are also going to be offering MSA sign in with a future update.
Its been a year, but neither email rights part nor Microsoft login is implemented. If you really take privacy seriously then 1 year time to implement doesn't prove that.
Hi there,
These changes have been made. You can sign in with MSA now. We also changed the Gmail requests when signing in.
Hi Ryan P, my swiftkey is telling me it will delete my account if I do not give it access to all my emails (because of age verification...). Sad to have to find a new keyboard.
Hello
I thought this was fixed, I am still being asked for access to my emails, which I will simply not provide. You will be losing a lot of potential customers this way. I do not want to give you access to my emails.
..a year later & permissions still not changed?!?!
Sounds like lip- service to a load of BS to me...
My account will be deleted tomorrow if I don't let you have access to read, edit and etc all my emails. So be it then & a whole pile of bad reviews headed your way...
Shame. I've enjoyed it while it lasted.
Permissions have been updated to what they were from before. We no longer ask for send or delete. We ask to read for personalization.
When you sign into SK with a Google account, we auto scan emails looking to help improve your SwiftKey experience by looking for key terms/phrases to build your personal language model.
Now when you are being asked to provide your age, and you signed in with Google, the same permissions are being asked as if you were signing in for the first time.
You can easily sign out > Keep data > sign in with FB or MSA if you do not wish to give access to your emails
Its been a long time but it still asks my permission to "delete all your email from Gmail".
This is kind of harsh.
I guess Google are on to it now also as I've just had an email stating that unless SwiftKey comply with their new policy, SwiftKey will lose all access to my account. Pity as it's a good app and I've used it for years until recently where it seemed to get too nosey and too bulky.
