Recent change makes SwiftKey function poorly?

As of a recent update, either to SwiftKey or Android / oxygenOS, I have a gray bar across the bottom of my keyboard which closes the keyboard and underlines all of the text typed after reopening the keyboard. It seems to have the same function as tapping anywhere else on the screen outside the keyboard. This gets super frustrating as it happens all the time reaching for the space key. What should I do? Oneplus 6 / android up to date / oxygenOS up to date / SwiftKey up to date. Google keyboard does not exhibit the same problem. Oxygen is a super light Android skin so I don't anticipate that being the issue. SwiftKey has always worked great for me.
