Hello, thank you for reaching us. The 'Backspace' key on the SwiftKey keyboard meets the operation of the 'Delete' key. If you are looking for a different operating procedure with a backspace key, can you please provide us with more information so we can assist you further? Your patience and understanding are highly appreciated. Thank you!

I think Nigel means we want a Delete key in addition to the existing Backspace key. On a physical keyboard they're two separate keys, where the Backspace key removes characters from the left of the cursor and the Delete key removes characters from the right of the cursor.

The SwiftKey keyboard currently only has a Backspace key. It means anytime we want to remove characters from the right of the cursor we can't, so we have to firstly move the cursor so that the characters we want to remove are positioned on the left of the cursor and then use the Backspace key. This becomes pretty tedious after a while. A proper Delete key would make this easier.

Actually this was one of the reasons why I switched to SwiftKey as i hoped it would have both keys, since the default Android and Google keyboards dont provide both keys either. So I was disappointed to discover SwiftKey doesn't have them either.
