The new flow is useless, the thing I liked about swiftkey was that it predicted what i typed from my typing history. This new version is useless to me and I'll be looking for a new keyboard

Hi! I see what you meant with this new feature, but at the end it makes the whole experience worse, and more like android keyboard. please revert it back, or make it selectable.

I agree with all other comments above - lack of spaces, double spaces, confusing cursor position, annoying to correct or add to a word. it's so bad it made me come to the forum :) thanks a lot

I created an account here just to say that this update has made SwiftKey unusable for me and I'm looking into alternate keyboard apps.

I'm hoping that the dev team takes the input from this thread seriously and either revert the change or add an option to enable/disable the new "improved" flow feature.

I agree with Rainyday2014. I actually just emailed you guys about this, I thought it was a glitch. Please make it an optional feature.

C'mon, fix this! Make SwiftKey Great Again! I'm going to look for a new keyboard if it's not fixed soon.

I've been using SwiftKey for years over multiple devices. It's one of the few apps that I bought the paid version for..I never had any problems until this update. I don't want to repeat the same things that everybody else has said, but it has affected my efficiency. I would appreciate if this was an optional feature. Thanks for your hard work.

So, after giving it a single star on Google Play, they responded with a canned message saying they're sorry to hear that I'm having problems and that I can get support by going to some web address. I don't need to open a support ticket. I need them to make this supposed "feature" optional or roll it back. I'm trying out other keyboards in the meantime and the Google Keyboard is actually looking promising. It sucks that I've got to start all over with training it on spelling though.

I've noticed that SwiftKey has stopped responding, and probably even monitoring, this thread. Typical Microsoft corporate mentality. If the public doesn't like what you've force on them, ignore them until they stop complaining. Good bye SwiftKey. It was great until this week.

Just deleted the new version & downloaded the apk from February. It's working like I remember. Hope they make the new version work well again. Until then, I will stick with this version.

I do not like the newest update. It has made using this keyboard much more difficult. I don't like the lack of automatic spacing. I don't like that it behaves so much like the regular Samsung keyboard. Please put the autospacing back.

How do I get the old APK? It looks like some people have found a way around the Microsoft "feature".

@Bret: I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to link you directly to the APK, but the last good version was v6.5.3.35. It'll be the first result if you Google: swiftkey 6.5.3.35 (the site rhymes with "nearer")

If you do downgrade, either ensure your typing data is synced via SwiftKey cloud or create a backup of your app data using something like Titanium Backup (if you have a rooted Android), and disable autoupdates in Google Play Store for SwiftKey as well.

This change is driving me CRAZY! I want to write 'Hi Mum', so I swipe 'hi', which it auto-capitalises. Then I want to capitalise the next word, but as the auto-space no longer happens, I end up dropping the previous word. So I end up with 'hi Mum'. I have tried re-educating myself, but it is just slowing me down so much I genuinely am considering abandoning Swiftkey, which I have been a fan of for years. PLEASE make this something I can opt out of. It's horrendous. I'm a sub-editor and I have a thing for text being correct - I'm having to go back over everything to fix stuff manually when I put it in properly in the first place, so Swiftkey at this point in time is making correct text incorrect. This is madness! Sorry for all the capitalised letters and exclamation marks, but you guys need to fix this soon or you will lose me.
(Hugs & kisses for all the previous great work though.)

@Jackie: Thanks for the info. I found the sight, but my only concern is whether I can trust the APK to be the original file without any modifications. I've never heard of this site before. I will download it and save it for a last resort. I'm really hoping that SwiftKey hears our cries and does the right thing by fixing this on their own.

@Bret: very genuine concern. It's the only APK site I trust as I'm also a regular user on XDA-Developers, /r/Android and /r/AndroidApps, and it is considered to be a reputable source. It was created and is maintained by androidpolice.com - http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/11/19/meet-apk-mirror/ (this link details how each APK uploaded undergoes various checks for safety)

Yeah, that site is the only 3rd party source I grab APKs from. No deceptive download links and very thorough testing. The only point of confusion is which one to get (arm? arm64? x86? android 4.0.3+? android 6.0+?). It all depends on your specific device. Just remember to uninstall SwiftKey from your device before you try to install an earlier version, otherwise it won't work. You'll lose all your preferences, but those are easy enough to put back to normal.

Just to clarify, the site sounds like Eh Pea Kay Mir Roar. But this "support" forum (and I use the word "support" very generously) wisely forbids people from pointing to 3rd party resources, so we all have to beat around the bush, as it were. Unfortunately, the SwiftKey team isn't giving us any other choice here.

This is not a feature. This feels like a bug. It functions like a bug. These fact that it's got a negative score should tip you off to the fact that nobody wants it.

    Change it back.

I'll be uninstalling at the end of the week if news doesn't roll out that this 'feature' is either being made optional or removed entirely.

My comments may not be worth more than 2¢, but I suspect there is more at play than simply changing the way SK works.

It doesn’t surprise me that long time users don’t like the change, although any users that are happy with the change would likely not post here, so the direction of these posts may be skewed, who knows.

Personally I have no vested interest in SK other than being a user since Swype started charging, but I can ASSURE you that the developers at SK are very smart and would only ever want us to be happy with their product. I use it exclusively and I was quite happy with it before the change. And it also seems obvious to me that by definition, prediction beats correction in terms of a more advanced product. Implied is that correction shouldn’t be needed because SK is smart enough to understand what was flowed. And it is. Was.

So why change? This is purely speculation, but I would guess at a few possibilities:

    - Maybe the new owners have new plans, they always do. Maybe they want to come out with their own brand of prediction flow (MS “Happy Trails”?).

    - Maybe the lead developper resigned and took the key IP with him/her.

    - Maybe prediction involves some Copyright infringement and they need to back off.

In any case, the developers at SK would only want their product to be well received. I am sure they are not ignoring these posts, they likely simply can’t act on them and likely can’t divulge why.

    266 words, 2¢.

Logged in just to comment here, as 99% of the other users seem to have done, that this new update is abysmal. I've been using SwiftKey for years. I paid $5 for it back when the play Store was still called Android Market. Predictions are now nonexistent, punctuation is supremely difficult, corrections are frustrating in that most have to be fully deleted and typed over and capitalization is infuriating at best. I've used SwiftKey so long that my brain won't tell my fingers how to physically use a different keyboard, but it looks like I'm going to have to go try Gboard like others here have mentioned.

For what it's worth, typing this using the new SwiftKey took me about 7 minutes because of all the correction needed. This is unacceptable. You've made an embarrassment of the greatest keyboard ever to grace the Android platform.

This update has killed my faith In SwiftKey. I don't get why the developers thought that forcibly pushing this downgraded version of Flow was a good idea. I regret ever updating my app.

I've been using SwiftKey for about 4.5 years now. It was like the first app I bought and I've used it in all my phones always. This new update is useless because the veteran users like me know how to solve it. If you swype a word and SwiftKey predicts it wrong, all you need to do is to type backspace once and it'll show the 3 best predictions and you'll choose. The other option is to hold backspace and swype again! Quite simple and quick. This new feature wasn't at all needed. And it's pretty annoying to see the same word I just wrote like a "prediction". The point on the predictions was to predict! So you don't have to type them at all! Not to type them twice! Many users were used to just swype a word and then click a few times on the predictions to write about 5 words in less than 2 seconds. Just revert the change or I'll change to Gboard... That says a lot because Gboard sucks

I've just realised that I lost my next word predictions due to emphasising the correction of the last one, isn't that at least 2 steps backwards? isn't that like admitting that the predictions need correction? why??

taking into consideration that the previous mechanism was a major distinction to the Google keyboard, and that the new one made correcting a word partially or adding to a word at the end (basic in my language) or even just to put an emoticon after a word a huge pain in the ass, it's rather half a dozen of steps backwards. can't believe it passed all tests

This has been driving me mad.. I thought there was a bug or I'd changed a setting by accident. Came to look for support and find out that it was an intentional change!
PLEASE add an option to change it back to the old way! I preferred it when a space was added automatically.

One more thing.. Every time a page loads on your website the search bar is automatically focused and brings down a list of stuff I've entered on other websites!

Just one more voice in the crowd. This update needs to die in a chemical fire. I paid for the app back in 2012 before it was freemium, and have recommended it to anybody with an Android phone. It just slowed me down by at least half, and I really don't want to get rid of it. The gesture mode is just tap-typing which is useless. The prediction capability is what set it apart from the swiping keyboard my Galaxy S4 shipped with (Swype?), and if this doesn't go away in the next few days I guess I'll move on.

Long time paid user. This change is the worst. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but can't take it anymore. The accidental capitalization, and basically never seeing predictions anymore. I use predictions far less often than corrections, so I should much rather hit delete to see corrections and have predictions populated by default. At least make this optional, come on guys!
