Lags on Android Nougat on Moto X Style

Could I please get some help with troubleshooting or tuning up SwiftKey?

Ever since the Android Nougat update, and even after I completely wiped the phone and reinstalled the OS, SwiftKey has been really laggy.

There are two kinds of lag:

• A 2-5 second wait for the keyboard to appear onscreen
  
  
• Lags when I'm typing and the whole phone freezes, then a few seconds later, all the keystrokes I've entered in SwiftKey are entered onscreen.

These lags only occur when SwiftKey is active.

The lags went away after the phone wipe but lately they have recurred. They occur even after I restart the phone.

Hope someone can help, or suggest an alternative keyboard app ;-)
