&, %, @, etc. Symbols on iPhone ABC Keyboard
I tried switching to iPhone earlier this year, and tried Swiftkey and Google Keyboard Apps on it. It is maddening having to switch to the SYM screen and back to the ABC screens.
In Android, a delayed 'press' on a number key brings up a symbol like &, %, @, etc. Much more efficient!
Will Apple iOS not their keyboards to do this? If not, why? If they did, I would switch back.
(Apple's embedded keyboard doesn't even provide numbers across the top...at least Swiftkey does)
Since the keyboard is the main source for input on a smartphone, I've chosen stay with Android.
Thanks,
I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking of switching to an iPhone 11th from the first gen pixel, but the keyboard situation in iOS is terrible. I downloaded swiftkey for my iPad but it doesn't offer anywhere near the same flexibility or usability that the android version offers. Like you, the keyboard is the primary way I interact with my phone. I'm not sure I can live with the underwhelming feature set of any of the iOS keyboards. I might have to stick with Android for this single reason.
Don't worry. I don't even get them on my android phone now. They're there when I long press, but the keys don't show them anymore. Annoying as hell. It always stunk on the iPhone. Heck, it doesn't even fill the whole screen left/right in landscape. I'm guess Apple jsit completely locks down what SwiftKey can do because that's more believable than SwiftKey is just that inept. Well slightly more believable.
But here's my keyboard now on my replacement Surface Duo. The symbols/punctuation show on my old Duo as well as my other Android phones. But not on my new duo with no settings to get them to show.
Hi Ryan C on your Microsoft SwiftKey Keyboard for Android, you have different themes, some have the symbols on them, some don't. Have you checked if you can see themes with symbols on them?
Ryan, the symbols not appearing on the android layout is just a theme, switch back to the theme which shows them ( i did this 2 days ago) But yesterday I switched to and iphone. Which has and absolutely awful keyboard and everything is a marathon, you need to switch 2 layout of keyboard to access an * or an - which I use A LOT. Actually, the symbols on the main keyboard is the only reason i paid for swiftkey years ago. Where are them in iphone???
