@neekless Absolutely, completely agree with you!

SWIFTKEY, IT'S TIME TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND PUT IT BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS, AS STATED IN THE OP!

I don't understand why we have to deal with this again...

A few months ago you guys changed the app, so it defaulted to the emoji prediction tab, which NOBODY supported. In fact there was a huge uproar in the community, about this move, totally understandably, as it totally ruins the user experience. You changed it back, listening to your users, great to see you listen to the people who use your app the most.
Now you pull a 180, and change it back to the state that EVERYONE HATES!? Why? Really why?

I love Swiftkey, but if thing are headed this direction, I'll switch to Gborad for sure!

@Ryan P When is this going to get fixed?

When will this be fixed? It immediately ruins the keyboard for me to over double the time it takes me to hit my favorite emojis. I know where the emojis are. I use them every day. Why am I dealing with this BS again? Excuse my language but it's very well known by SwiftKey devs that nobody wants this, and if they did, they should be able to toggle it.

@Brandon Grill expressed my sentiments perfectly!  The latest update 7.0.8.362 failed to fix this issue. Bummer!  Back to the normal keyboard.

Can anyone recommend a keyboard that has the number row and arrow keys?

Yes please! I'm glad I'm not the only one who's not satisifed with the emoji update.

When your're at it, could you maybe make it possible to disable the "emojis" altogether? I'm totally fine with using just the :-) , :D , :-( and their variations. Afther the last update, I have to make 4 strokes to acces those smileys, which is the same amount as just typing them out sign by sign.

Could you please, please stop forcing those "emojis" on users who don't want them. I love everything about this keyboard, but I started looking for alternatives because of this annoying "emoji" feature.

    Thank you :-)

Why would you want them to disable the emojis altogether? The symbol emojis act the same as any other emoji, the ones you use will be in the recents tab. But if SwiftKey would listen to their users and have the last used tab open by default then everyone would be happy, even you :-) But no need to disable them altogether.

My SwiftKey updated overnight and I thought this was a bug. Reading that it's by design is utterly bewildering, wtf are they thinking. At least give me an option to undo your bs

@sams parsons This issue was introduced several versions ago. So many people complained about it so they fixed it so the default tab was whatever the last one was used, see this thread https://support.swiftkey.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360012120386/comments/360000616786#community_comment_360000616786

Now for some dumb reason they put it back to the way everyone complained about it. It's no wonder Microsoft sucks so badly now.

Why is this happening again? We've been through this before, with the known result. Everybody hates this. Why try this again? Please remove this "feature" that nobody wants.

What's the best alternative for swiftkey as far as predictions and multiple language support that doesn't have this issue?

@Tim Gavin Have you tried Gboard? So far that's been the best for me but still falls short because I need arrow keys and the ability to capitalize a word after I type it. Hopefully SwiftKey will change back to previous behavior, but it's not looking very hopeful since they're ignoring this thread.

@Tim Gavin I too have been trying Gboard and it's a nice alternative to SwiftKey. It's a lot easier to enter GIF's and to go to the web on Gboard.  However, its big disadvantage compared to Swiftkey is not being able to longpress on a key to obtain alternate characters such as ($#%/  The number keypad is different but I'm starting to like it.

Extremely annoying. I 95% of the time use the ascii emojis. It should remember this tab as it did before.

I've been playing with gboard... it has some features I don't like as much as their SwiftKey equivalents, such as the way they do predictions and word completion and language switching.  However, like Kyle above, I use the text emoticons all the time, and actually don't use graphical ones at all except in rare circumstances.  If the new one remembered the text-based ones and kept them on the font page it wouldn't matter, but it doesn't, and I really don't care to take the time to hunt for them.

This cool new 'feature' just needs an enable toggle, and none of this would matter.  But I've been expecting this since Microsoft bought them out, so I'm not surprised.

Doesn't the text based emojis get saved in the recents tab? They do on my SwiftKey. And the recents tab is the default tab if it was the last one used. Therefore, most, if not all the emojis you use should be seen there and you'll never have to switch tabs. Am I missing something?

I am extremely frustrated with this change. Now it always defaults to the prediction tab and I NEVER want to use that tab. Please change it back to keeping the most recent tab, otherwise it causes the loss of time typing and it is no longer "swift"key it is "annoying" key and I will look for a different keyboard option

Wayne you are right, if you last used the recents tab it goes back there again, every other tab goes back to the crystal ball. What sense this makes is anybody's guess. I just wish they went back to the old one. Maybe it is a bug but then why not say so.

This is an absolute garbage update. The last time, the crystal ball prediction default sucked. This time it sucks. Next time it will suck, too. Stop trying to force this crappy predictive algorithm on us without at least offering the ability to shut it off.

    1. While focus is in a text box, press the Win + period (.) or Win + semicolon (;) keys to open the Emoji Panel. (see screenshots below)

    2. You can now select and enter an emoji you want from the Emoji Panel.

Arrow keys – Navigate among emoji
Tab / Shift + Tab – Switch emoji category
    Enter – Select an emoji
    Esc – Close the panel

It would be nice if you could disable the predictions tab altogether. It's extremely annoying and aways completely inaccurate for me. I love SwiftKey and use emoji a lot but the extra couple swipes to get through predictions (and recents which I also rarely use) is kind of obnoxious. Remembering your last emoji tab would be a good solution, as would just defaulting to the people tab (which is generally what I want)

To Brad's point, any feature or function that controls the default experience should have a toggle to disable it...

There should be a setting which allows for selecting the default emoji panel according to the user's taste. Having to swipe to the panel I always use (Smileys and People) is slightly inconvenient every time there's a typing 'mood' but it has to be interrupted by the swiping. Really appreciate this keyboard and want it to be the best in the market. Hope this little issue gets fixed soon.

It wouldn't even need that, the default before the 'predictions' panel was to stay on the most recently used... they could just keep that, but put it on 'predictions' for new installs and updates.  Or toggle the predictions panel off and on.

Or any number of better options than the one they went with :-|
