The NEW LINE button is hardly to see. You can indeed find it in the right corner, near to the space button. It has a dual functionality: as a emoji button and as a line break button.
I use a Samsung Tab S3 with Office 365, mostly Word. I cannot type a 'new line' character into a document. I know that such a character exists because I can import text with newlines, rather than paragraph marks. I can copy this character and paste it into text but I cannot type it from SwiftKey. This is a serious and annoying deficit. Please advise.
Hello,
By default settings, you can long-press on the emoji key on the bottom-right corner.
If not, please toggle "emoji access" off in the settings > typing > keys.

That doesn't answer the question. Long pressing the emoji key accesses the emoji menu.
How can a new line character be inserted? The return key inserts a new paragraph character.
If you mean EOL in coding, I don't think SwiftKey or any other daily communication keyboard has the special key for it. You'll need to type the code.
In Whatsapp, Go to (Settings), Select (Chats), Uncheck (Enter is send).. This will help..!!
