[Main Thread] Samsung S8/S8+ keyboard size really large
CompletatoUsing the new s8+, and even with the keyboard size set to the smallest, it's still really large.
Mostly happens with the highest resolution on the phone, 2960x1440.

Updated to 6.6.1.20 yesterday and normal service has been resumed. Phew.
Sorry about this happens again. I will report it immediately.
My wife and I both have been living with this problem since we upgraded to S8+ on launch day, hope there is a permanent fix soon. On the smallest setting SK takes up ~40% of the screen in portrait and ~60% in landscape. It's normal at the FHD+ resolution, but the device doesn't have that nice crisp look you get with WQHD+ so I'm just dealing with having a large keyboard for now.
Previous beta version's mini keyboard was perfect on my S8+ but the latest update has made my keyboard huge again. Neither SwiftKey or SK beta are suitable at its smallest size (almost 40% of the screen)
Same story on my s8+, the new update messed it up again the small size is so big and even the beta which I installed now didn't solve the issue.
Please push out an update some this is painfully annoying. I have been using form the days where you had buy it which I did and now today is the most troubled I fell lol. Please fix this.
Fixed again with the latest update: SwiftKey Beta 6.6.2.25
Sizing is back to normal! Can't wait to get searchable GIFs. Already deleted GBoard again :)
Noticed this has reverted back to the original issue at 2960x1440 resolution. Can we get a repatch on this?
Anyone tested today's version? Fixed again?
Confirmed. Sizing issue fixed on SwiftKey Beta 6.6.2.25
Confirmed fixed in the version SwiftKey Beta SwiftKey Beta 6.6.2.25
Typing on my s8+ at 1440p
Now only gripe is navigation bar color stays white when SwiftKey is expanded, looks odd with dark themes. Not sure it's Samsung issue and if so SwiftKey can do a workaround on the themes
Unfortunately while this seems to be fixed for S8 users (from what I've read on these forums), it is still completely broken for Galaxy Note 5 users, with both the latest Beta and Release SwiftKey keyboards.
My Samsung Note 5 is running Nougat, and I need to use the SwiftKey keyboard on the smallest size setting now. When I rotate the device, even the smallest size keyboard is HUGE on the screen, making it unusable.
SwiftKey did have this working back earlier, but it's been broken in all the updates since June. I have switched to the Samsung keyboard as it actually doesn't have these resolution and size problems. But I really like the SwiftKey keyboard more. But if you can't fix this, I am afraid that I will have to give up on SwiftKey.
SwiftKey, isn't there anything that you could do to fix this? The fact that you had it working fine with my same device configuration a few months ago would seem to indicate that it is possible to make this work properly.
Please help...
Rich, in also using Note 5 running Nougat latest security patch update (June 1st) and latest SwiftKey Beta. Everything is OK now. Even before this patch update it was.
Maybe unnistall it and install again can solve this.
Thanks Viniciusrsouza for the note. I uninstalled SwiftKey and updated to the latest update on my Note 5, cleared cache, installed SwiftKey Beta, and it still acts the same (huge keyboard)...
Rich, this is very weird. Anyway, for testing purposes, go to APK Mirror and download the latest version prior to the GIF feature. This version for sure is OK! I remember I needed to use that version in order to avoid the huge keyboard issue until a new update was available.
(Apologies, I think my previous reply post attempt didn't work) Thanks for your help, Viniciusrsouza. I installed an older Beta version and it worked!! Keyboard sizing was correct, like it used to be. But upgrading to the latest Beta version causes it to be broken again.
Is there a way to keep Google Play from updating the Beta version to the latest version?
In Play Store on the Swiftkey Beta app page, click 3 dots in upper right corner and uncheck "auto update"
Well, I really don't think it's possible to avoid the auto update. Disable it inside Play Store settings. You will have to wait another version to check if this issue is over for you. Or maybe a factory reset could workaround this.
Just confirming, I'm using the latest SwiftKey Beta and it's size is OK now.
Thank you Mark and Viniciusrsouza. It's interesting that it works for you so maybe I do need to do a factory reset. However I'm rather hesitant to do so given how much data I have on the phone. For now I'm using GBoard until SwiftKey fixes this issue - this is difficult however as I've only ever used SwiftKey!
I was really liking the oversized keyboard, it was perfect for my fingers! Please bring it back as an oversized keyboard for those of us with big hands/fingers/thumbs!
Thanks.
I also have the size problem with my note 8. While using Gboard I found 2 features I really like and would like to see on swiftkey which are 1. holding down enter to make the keyboard compact for one handed use which is a lot easier for swapping back and forth between the layouts and 2. sliding on the spacebar for moving the cursor, replacing the need for arrow keys row.
Would really appreciate these features because it makes it a lot easier to type on the 6+ inch screens.
I'm having this issue on a Note8 (SM-N950F) as well.
I'm running Version 6.6.9.32 with Android 7.1.1 and Samsung Experience 8.5. I have my device resolution set to WQHD+ (2960x1440) and with SwiftKey set to "Smallest" the keyboard is still noticeably larger than the default Samsung Keyboard.
If I change my screen resolution back to FHD+ (2220x1080) Swiftkey becomes the expected size.
I upgraded to Note 8 and I'm also facing this exact issue again. Can't understand why SwiftKey team is taking so much time to address this, since it's a well known problem!
Having the same issue here. Had it with the s8 plus and now with the note 8. The Samsung keyboard is big but not as big. The SwiftKey keyboard takes up half the screen. Literally.
Hi, just got the s9+ and having the same problem as described here. The difference is huge and changing resolution to full HD fixes it but I want to use QHD
Hi I have this problem in Galaxy S9+. Smallest size is covering almost 50% of the screen. Will there be any fix?
I got tired of waiting and dumped SwiftKey. Using Google Gboard, it took a bit to get used to it since I'd never used it before but, imo, it's superior to SwiftKey in every way. I don't know if they ever got it right or not for the S8+. Good luck.
The sizing issue on the S8 was fixed after 2 months. I imagine it'll be fixed a bit sooner for the S9.
I already had S8+ now bought S9+ I have set all the settings exactly same. it is oreo on both and SwiftKey version 7.0.0.16 on both mobile but the size on the newer S9+ is way too big. tried lots of settings. also reset my S9+ to factory but no good. I have taken screenshot from both but I don't know how to share here
