Like John Juroe, I also am experiencing this issue currently only with the mobile version of the Discord app. Issue only presents itself on that app and only with the SwiftKey keyboard (I have also used the Google keyboard (GBoard) to add gifs to conversations in Discord) and there is no issue on doing so using GBoard. I have already spoken with Discord about this and they determined it to be an issue with the GIF picker in SwiftKey. I have email conversations with them to attest to this. I also have screen shots of the issue as presented in attempts to send gifs using the SwiftKey GIF picker in Discord.

OnePlus 6 on AT&T.  Google keyboard works fine sending the same gifs in the same basic texting app.  Love the features of SwiftKey and find it to be a better general keyboard that I've used for years now, but I will move to something different if GIF pasting keeps only showing a link.  Disappointed to see this issue persist on my new phone and few updates on such an old thread.

    Back to iPhone I go
Had the note 9 for less than a week. There are too many disconnects between the apps and phone
    This stupid gif issue
Instagram cropping off pictures because of ratio size! These phones are too expensive for such petty errors
I'm sick of it in out ✌️ less disconnects on iPhone

Same problem as others. Samsung Galaxy S8+ using Discord app. Gifs do not autoplay in the chat. Others must click the link to play the gif. If I insert a gif using Gboard, the gif autoplay in the chat just fine. Why is this only an issue with SwiftKey??

This is how I resolved this...Your mileage may vary...

I had the same problem as the original poster, Samsung Galaxy S8 Active on ATT, GIFY app no longer inserting images into the Messages app but the URL instead while using the Swiftkey keyboard.

    1. While typing (so it brings up the Swiftkey keyboard), press the plus symbol ( + ) at the far left of the prediction row.

    2. For me, this brings up a tool bar just above the prediction row... Scroll that bar all the way to the right and click the three dots button ( ... )

    3. This brings up the Customizer screen.  Unselect the GIF icon.

    4. Press the back arrow at the top of the Customizer screen (not the Android back button), then click the three dots again on the toolbar.

    5. Reselect the GIF icon in the Customizer screen and then back out again.

    6. Test inserting GIFs to see if actual GIFs are inserted instead of the URLs.

This worked for me, hopefully it will help some of you...

    Cheers,

    Brendan

I also ran into this issue on my Note 8, Samsung SMS, AT&T. Some GIFs work just fine, others do not. Brendan Anthony's solution worked for some GIFs, but some still post a url. Specifically when I search for a GIF category that is not pre-populated. I love the swift keyboard, but this issue is annoying. Keep up the good work though!

I wish Brendan Anthony's trick worked for me on my T-Mobile LG G7! I am still having this issue with both the Swiftkey Keyboard and the beta version of the Swiftkey Keyboard. 😢

Hmm, I am on an LG V30 using the LG stock texting app on t-mobile. The trick above doesn't work. I have changed the settings of the texting app to send images and videos of original size without scaling and I still get the http instead of a GIF image. Frustratingly, because I otherwise like this app, gboard adds GIFs perfectly OK so I doubt the problem is exclusively with LG text or T-mobile.

How is this not fixed yet? The stock keyboard for Android sends gifs perfectly. This has been an issue with SwiftKey for over a year based on this thread. No update coming. Time to uninstall and revert back to the stock keyboard.

When is there going to be an update on this issue? It's still happening, and as others have stated - it's been going on for over a year. GIFs work fine on the stock google keyboard. I love Swiftkey for the most part and don't want to have to revert, however this is a very annoying issue that may force me to stop using your product. Please provide an update on the status of this issue.

The only app that I run into this with is Discord. It's my main messaging app with friends, and it definitely supports gifs. Gboard works just fine. It looks like a few others have specifically mentioned Discord, just wanted to throw mine on top of the pile.

You would think since they have a regular SwiftKey and a beta version in the Play Store, that at least the regular version would be working fine. Why put out something that would mess up what used to work fine if you have a beta version to test with?

    Hi,

I'm having this problem using WhatsApp on Samsung S6. Other keyboards like Flexkey work fine with Giphy. Not sure what the problem is with SwiftKey.

I'm planning to move my keyboard over, I love SwiftKey, but looks like there have been issues with Gifs for plus 2 years. The answer seems to be the carrier doesn't allow, or it breaches a data limit etc.

But I'm using WhatsApp, and other keyboards work fine, so this is, in my eyes, a problem with SwiftKey itself not other keyboards, the carrier, or the manufacturer.

So frustrating. This is still an issue on my galaxy s10. I love swiftkey, but at this point I have no faith that they will ever fix this, and I'm switching back to gboard..

I've been using SwiftKey for about 4 years now and have done my absolute best to get by without the ability to send gifs (yeah 1st world problems indeed) but after reading this thread and seeing this company's blatant disregard to even acknowledge their customers questions/comments for over a full year regarding this pretty important topic, I say that we let the free market run its course and all move to a BETTER product. (It shouldn't be hard to find one from what I saw while in this thread.)

Yup, I'd jump ship in a second. Please post one here if you find something new.

Every now and again I forget about this malfunction and try to use the gifs 😡

On my Galaxy S8, using the general settings for the keyboard, I added the button at the bottom to switch keyboards. Press the button, switched to Samsung keyboard and selected/posted the GIF, then switched back to Swiftkey.  The only downside I've found is that there are fewer GIFs to select from, but at least they don't post the URL instead of the picture.

Just created an account to say goodbye to SwiftKey. I have used and recommended your app for far too long. The lack of response on this known issue is unacceptable. I am dumping you for gboard. Bye!

Samsung has an option to put a keyboard icon in the bottom right of the screen, check your settings for General Mgmt, then Language and input. You can switch between Swiftkey and Gboard without leaving the input area. I use Gboard just for the GIF searches and posts.

Pushing this one again, how is this not fixed? This is exactly what happens to me:

    The context:
    I am running Android 7.1.2 (LineageOS 14.1)
    SwiftKey is running 7.5.5.9.
I am trying to send gifs to a channel on the Discord mobile app.
    Discord is running version 23.0.

    What happens:
    1. I tap the text input bar in Discord to bring up SwiftKey
    2. I tap the GIF tab.
    3. I click the Search icon (magnifying glass)
    4. I type in "hugs" and tap the Search icon (the one that replaces the return button)
    5. I tap the first image
At this point an animated preview is available above the discord text input bar.
    6. I tap the discord send button.
At this point the following text is sent to Discord:
    https://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?id=OGC.71d6010f5a3e0aa373580fd33bae4b55&pid=Api&rurl=https%3a%2f%2fmedia.giphy.com%2fmedia%2f11D9WQ4TYDqrIc%2fgiphy.gif&ehk=IGBl6ZSSRXS1xboj%2bMKmgTq1lsNJeFBndHc2y2saoRw%3d

Discord only shows a still image. It does not the animated gif.

If I edit the link remove the bing portion of the url, and unescape the giffy url, then Discord displays an animated gif.
    https://media.giphy.com/media/11D9WQ4TYDqrIc/giphy.gif

THIS IS WHAT SWIFTKEY SHOULD BE POSTING.
It looks like the issue is just poor integration between bing search and SwiftKey's GIF feature. I have provided all the information necessary to reproduce this issue AS WELL AS a solution. Please fix this ASAP. This has been broken for years and it honestly feels like SwiftKey has abandoned interest in maintaining their software.

Microsoft has apparently purchased Switftkey keyboard. My Android got an update a few days ago and Swiftkey has been replaced by Microsoft Switftkey. After an update I was asked to select a keyboard and there was the same one I had always been using, but now it said Microsoft. Also, the GIF WORKS!  Finally! It's been a long wait.

    1. What version of SwiftKey do you have installed?
    2. What app were you able to successfully use the gif feature in?
