Bing Search Feedback
Hello all,
We have been beta testing Bing Search within SwiftKey. This feature allows you to quickly search the web for anything and either, quickly capture a screen shot, crop it and send it OR send the URL directly in the conversations you are already having.
Key features to test out:
- Search for something while already inside the app you're in
- Crop and share a screen shot of search results
- Share the URL of search results after a search
- Try a range of searches to see how the results are
Please let us know what you think about this feature(s) and how it can be improved.
You can find Search in the Toolbar here:
I use this feature almost every day to quickly pull information. I still would like to have the option to disable, and I would like to be able to set the search provider to Google. That said, I haven't had a search that I specifically needed Google for, Bing works fine, I just prefer Google.
I don't think the word "search" is necessary. Make it a globe and magnifying glass, or IE icon and save some real estate.
Something everyone seems to be missing here is the built in browser is amazingly light weight. It uses a fraction of the resources that Chrome requires, so someone using a low end phone might see a substantial increase in responsiveness compared with the browser app they're using currently.
I don't care what search engine it is built with it just serves the purpose for which it is built. I am not going to rely on it for search.
But even if I use it I don't like it's huge icon for no purpose. A small 🔍 will serve the purpose. And even this should be optional for those who don't need it.
Hello everyone,
For anyone not on our beta app. We updated it today:
Thanks for all the feedback.
Best,
Ryan
I still prefer bing logo. But the point is bing is very poor for specific answer. When I search for "what is the height of everest?" it is just pull out Wikipedia article instead of giving me the particular answer. I wish microsof should not own this keyboard. Microsoft just ruin this popular keyboard.
@Ryan
Thanks for the update! The design language is much more salient now.
@Tareque
I just searched "what is the height of everest?" and it gave me 29,029 ft. Sorry your point doesn't hold up to scrutiny.
As useful as the screenshot button is, it would be a lot better if there were a save button and a create sticker button in the crop menu instead of just send
Having the search window option is a useful feature; but offering only Bing as the engine is manipulative.
You should allow users to choose any search engine —Chrome, Duck-Duck, Safari, Firefox, etc. —to search & to set as the SwiftKey default search engine.
Thanks for your kind attention.
Please make this optional. It's very irritating and not everyone likes to use Bing, and it takes up a lot of space on an otherwise useful tool bar. Everything else on the tool bar is optional, so why not the search bar too?
Why isn't this optional like everything else on the toolbar?
It takes up 1/3rd of the tool bar on my screen and has made the toolbar useless to me as I pretty much just have a giant search box tied to a search engine that I would never use.
PLEASE make it optional. Your app was once the most customisable keyboard out there, but now you are forcing Bing onto everyone who uses it. That's not only biased towards Bing, but it's also completely against your brand image to force something onto the keyboard without being able to turn it off.
Please do the sensible thing and make it removable. I don't want it, and clearly a lot of other people don't either as there are even articles on various websites about it...
In our latest 7.2.1.17 version (Updated on Jan 24 2019) the Bing search can be turned off.
@Alpert still no option for Google search instead of Bing? I know you are Microsoft, but can you not add the option, rather than lose those of us that use Google?
Not sure if anyone found, but Google search engine option is live in our beta.
Hi Albert, thanks for the update! I was waiting for this.
