[Tutorial] How to prevent your keyboard switching from SwiftKey back to the stock keyboard
Em destaqueDear SwiftKey users,
We heard several times that some of you may run into an issue that annoys you very much: I selected SwiftKey as default input method, and it will randomly switch back to the stock (OEM) keyboard
Reason no.1 is the RAM cleaner killed SwiftKey. The solution is very easy: add SwiftKey into the white-list.
More importantly: it also could because some of the phones' OS has special RAM management and battery monitor to control the usage of each app. SwiftKey Keyboard for Android supports 5 languages at the same time, plus the Neural (AI learning) technology for predicting next words intelligently might need a bit more power from your phone. This could cause unwanted accidentally killing of SwiftKey
How to prevent it?
Well, different phones have different OS, even if they're all Android, but deeply customized. Here I list some of the phones which ran into this issue.
Samsung devices before Android Nougat update and some other close to stock android OS phones: System Settings > Battery (Power) > Battery Optimization > tap "not optimized" and select "all apps" > Find SwiftKey > Choose "Don't optimize".
Samsung device after Android Nougat (7.0+) update: System Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery > Unmonitored apps > Add apps > check SwiftKey.
Oppo smartphones: Security Center > Battery > Enable Smart power-saving mode > Power-saving app control and management > Add apps > check SwiftKey.
Xiaomi smartphones: Go to Security Tab -Permission-Auto-start management - Add auto-start apps, check SwiftKey.
Hope this little tutorial can help you. Let us know if you have any other tips or tricks to help others out

Doesn't work for you on my Samsung Galaxy Note Five running Nougat.
Hi Paul,
You meant "doesn't work for 'you' " right?
This method is discovered by some users on Reddit and some of my individual dev friends. It's not an official method. If it keeps fail on your device, I'd suggest you to contact Samsung directly.

So i made it so SwiftKey board isn't be optimized by the battery. So NO MATTER WHAT, it will stay as my default keyboard NOW?
I don't understand what you tried to say but I assume you wanted to say it does not work? What's your device model and SwiftKey version # plz?
No, it does not work for me. I have to switch back to SwiftKey every morning. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 & SwiftKey version Beta Keyboard 6.6.4.15
Paul, the phone management of Samsung OS is tricky, as I replied a while ago, I still suggest to look for solutions with Samsung officials. The tutorial worked for most users and we had no problem while testing it in our mod team.
I am using a Huawei T 1 7.0 media pad,
How do I make SwiftKey keyboard my Permanent Default Keyboard pls, bcs it's really so annoying when I had to go back to settings every time I switch my fone on and on it again, only to find out that it's gone back to stock keyboard
I have had to uninstall Swiftkey as I have 2 issues.
It won't stay as my default inout device and it causes an error which keeps closing the samsung keyboard, making my phone virtually inopperable.
I have Samsung Note 5 running Android 7.0

I'm not sure how to help you because I'm not familiar with Huawei devices. But try to toggle off the Huawei keyboard may help in general. However if you have password for turning on the device, I'd not recommend to do so.
@Dave
3/4 of the reports we received comes from Samsung devices, perhaps it's Samsung has some sort of special management. As for the crash of Samsung keyboard, please search for similar content in the forum, for example: is this problem similar to yours? If yes, please comment directly in that thread; if not, please take a look at other threads or start a new thread with all the details. What happened to you might happen to others as well, your report might just help us out.
Thank you.
You could also simply disable your stock keyboard
@Steven
I would not recommend it to everyone. Because some users have set up bootup password, which has to be typed by stock keyboard. Because it's during the bootup, no 3rd party apps would be allowed to start.
For the users who don't have a bootup password, yes, disable the stock keyboard might be a solution.
I've done this and not only is it still disabling itself, it's completely resetting all of it's settings, deleting of of the a data and deleting all of the themes Including the custom themes that I've made.
Any ideas?
@Leah
Sorry to hear that. It's not normal.
Please follow the instructions here to add more necessary info.
Thank you
Ok
hi, on new doogee y8 after phone screen is off and after one minute memory manager kicks in on Android pie. afterwards SwiftKey does not show up on screen when selected. when selecting a text field screen remains empty and only stock keyboard works.
I have a Samsung Note 8 and have been using the Swiftkey keyboard for years. I recently got the Android Pie update and now the keyboard constantly switches back to the default Samsung keyboard. I am able to change it, but after a short time, it goes back to the default. The instructions above are too old and don't work for this issue. Has anyone figured out how to get the Swiftkey keyboard to remain on in Pie on a Note 8?
Android Pie Solution! What finally worked for me is: in settings main menu there is a "Memory" option which specifies which apps, when trigger is at ON, are not forced closed to save energy. That worked for Swiftkey pretty well.
