Because some of the chat apps doesn't support GIF properly (you may be able to send GIF with SwiftKey but in fact if you try with Gboard aka Google keyboard it says "current text field does not support GIF"), we decided to change the way sending GIF messages in these apps.
Instead of sending GIF, SwiftKey now sends the link of the GIF. In this way, you can share GIF even current app does not support it properly. Meanwhile, for apps which support GIF completely (Textra, Facebook Messenger, etc), SwiftKey stays the same.

If you're referring the problem is an SMS app, please visit this topic.

If not, please add following details:

    • SwiftKey version #
    • In which app it does not work and its version #
    • Android version

    Thanks

It is possible that the both messaging apps you are using does not support GIF. The best to find out is to use Gboard to send GIF in both app. If GIF is allowed for Gboard, then we'll check on our side. If it doesn't, please switch to another messaging app.

    What is Gboard?

I don't understand why you think the app doesn't support GIFs.  I can send and receive GIFs just fine.  The issue is that when i use SwiftKey to select a GIF when replying to a message I am forced to select a new recipient as though I am writing a new message. Once i select a recipient the GIF sends just fine.

    Gboard is Google Keyboard.

I understand, but in most cases, send for a new recipient is a way to show that the messaging app does not support GIF properly. SwiftKey wants to give user the ability to insert GIF everywhere, but unfortunately it's not what we thought: many messaging apps don't support GIF properly.

Gboard actually detects if current app supports GIF, so if you are able to send GIF with it and without problems, this could prove that the messaging apps you are using fully support GIF. I don't have a Samsung phone or Verizon, I need your help to find out, if you don't mind.
    Thank you.

    I'm happy to help.  :)

Gboard says something like "this input filed does not support inserting a GIF from the keyboard."

Thanks Eric, that's what I wanted to say: the messaging app you're using unfortunately does not support GIF properly. I'd recommend Textra SMS if you want to use the GIF feature.
Let me know if you need further help.

If anyone is still having these issues, just move your original message icon from home screen and put the app message icon in its place. You should never have a problem after that. Must use the app message icon to send gifs.

My problem is on apps like Facebook or Instagram, if I try to insert a gif into a comment, it creates a new post instead. This only seems to be recent.

I'm have the same issues with Facebook. When I try to post a GIF in a comment it says you cannot enter content here you can share instead and it creates my GIF in a post. I've spoke to my carrier I've tried reporting to Facebook (no response from them obviously) no one has an answer to this

    Hi,

I'm having this problem using WhatsApp on Samsung S6. Other keyboards like Flexkey work fine with Giphy. Not sure what the problem is with SwiftKey.

I'm planning to move my keyboard over, I love SwiftKey, but looks like there have been issues with Gifs for plus 2 years. The answer seems to be the carrier doesn't allow, or it breaches a data limit etc.

But I'm using WhatsApp, and other keyboards work fine, so this is, in my eyes, a problem with SwiftKey itself not other keyboards, the carrier, or the manufacturer.
