    Hi everyone,

Unfortunatley, this is not a SwiftKey issue and there is nothing we can do about this. This bug seems to impact a certain set of devices running Android 5.0+.

We're keeping track of it anyway, but most likely will have to be fixed by a future Android OS update.

    Best,

    Ryan

    I have a similar problem.  5.0.0.72 / Nexus 5 / 4.4.3 / Minimal Black theme

I can set swiftkey to be the default and it will persist even while switching apps, but if i reboot or set my phone down and it idles for some time, I will sometimes find it has reverted to the google keyboard.

My issue fundamentally differs from the above poster, who reports switching apps will cause it to revert.  Mine seems to persist throughout app-switching, but will sometimes lose default when rebooted or idle.

This issue is so far frustratingly difficult to reproduce.

To add to my original post, after a full day of using the latest version of swiftkey my problem is actually much more similar to tismondo.

Just when I thought the keyboard preferences had stuck it will revert back to stock. As mentioned above it is nearly impossible to consistently replicate this error.

FFortunately besides the theme store I'm not missing any features sticking with the beta version.

I'm also having the same problem with my HTC One X.

Previously it would revert to the stock keyboard after I rebooted my phone. Now Swiftkey reverts to the stock keyboard each time I switch applications!

I just received the following email from swiftkey:

    Hi,

Sorry you are experiencing this after the update. There seems to have been some sort of memory caching bug happening in the update process for some users.

Please try uninstalling the app and then re-installing. A fresh install rather than an update seems to fix this 99% of the time.

    Thanks,
    Eric, Head of Community

According to this email if we uninstall and reinstall swiftkey the problem will be resolved. So far swiftkey has been working properly so it is worth a try.

For me uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work. I still have the same problem.

Uninstalling and reinstalling was one of the first things I tried, but it hasn't helped me either.  I'll force stop, delete data, and uninstall/reinstall again and hope for different results.

I have a Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 - both tied to the same cloud sync account and settings are (I think) identical.  The Nexus 5 suffers from this problem, while the Nexus 7 does not.  (though the the new update is a little laggy on the Nexus 7, but that's a different issue I suppose)

    Edit - confirmed - a 2nd reinstall didn't fix it 😢

I am in the same boat as everyone else on this thread. The fresh install did not resolve the issue of reverting back to stock keyboard.

I'm having the same issue. I switch my keyboard to Swiftkey, type up a text to someone, they reply 5-10 minutes later, I go to write a reply and the stock keyboard is my default keyboard again. It happens for every app. It's not immediate, it's not after locking my phone or closing the app, it seems to be happening after a certain period of inactivity.

Having the same problem on a Galaxy S4 running 4.4.2.  It appears that SwiftKey is crashing.  I've attached a logcat.

It hasn't crashed, Android always outputs that when restarting a sticky service whose process has died regardless of reason. In this case it looks like something on your device is force stopping processes which will cause Android to restart them.

For anyone still dealing with this (me) who is rooted with titanium backup, freezing the Google keyboard is working for me as a workaround. Google keyboard won't work anymore unless you unfreeze it again, but I'm guessing that's not a problem for most of us.

I know that there was a bug with Android that didn't let paid apps load in time during the boot up which is why reboots would return the stock keyboard the phone came with. This was common with Samsung devices.

Don't know what's different with the GS5 but it doesn't happen with it for me.

It looks like the latest update of Swiftkey doesn't play nice with Greenify.

As soon as I removed Swiftkey from Greenify's list, the problem was solved.

Nothing has changed on my device recently apart from updating Swiftkey. I've been using both apps together for well over a year without any issues.

    Hope Swiftkey can fix this.

Note that SwiftKey Beta 4.5.0.68 does not seem to have this problem.  I've re-installed 4.5.0.68 and the SwiftKey keyboard stays active.

Khronos: since Android restarts apps with sticky services if greenify kills them I don't understand why you'd want to? Performance and battery life too good on your device?

I installed the update to swiftkey this morning. version 5.0.1.77 and the issue still persist. The keyboard will revert back to the stock keyboard.

I could freeze the stock keyboard using titanium backup as one person suggested, but since the beta version is working fine I will continue to use that version of swiftkey.

I registered just to post I'm having the same issue as the OP.  I've got an HTC Amaze 4G stock ROM (ICS 4.0.3).  I can set SwiftKey as the default keyboard, but after some idle time, it gets reset to the HTC Touch Input keyboard.  I tried a clean install, but had the same issue.  I had the paid version of SwiftKey before the recent update, and I never did have this issue with that keyboard.  I also don't have the issue with the Google Keyboard or the Hacker Keybaord.

So no responses or anything? This is a really aggravating and annoying issue.

Wanted to echo a previous comment and say that greenify seems to have been the problem. Hibernating Swiftkey 5 causes it to crash and revert to the stock keyboard. So far it's working again with no problems.

Would just like to add that greenify was/is not the issue. SwiftKey is not being greenified at all and yet still getting reverted to default Google keyboard on my Moto X with 4.4.3

Try going into settings >application manager >Google keyboard, and turn it off, disable, force stop, etc. This way, your Google keyboard is taken out of commission and will no longer show up as a keyboard option until you turniit back on, re-enable it etc. It worked for me, anyway.

Solution to this problem is simple move the swiftkey to phone storage and it will not revert back to samsung default

    Hello,

I just installed the latest version of swiftkey version 5.0.0.72 on my T-Mobile HTC one (M8) Android 4.4.2 HTC Sense 6.0. I followed the installation prompts and set swiftkey as the default keyboard. The keyboard itself is working great, but every time I switch applications the keyboard reverts back to the stock HTC sense keyboard. I can simply slide down the notification panel and switch the keyboard back to swiftkey but that gets annoying after awhile. I have been using the latest version of swiftkey beta version 4.5.0.68 and have had no problems with the keyboard reverting back to stock. I will remain on the beta version until I know this issue has been resolved on the latest version of swiftkey.

    Thank you,

    Garrett McPerry

    Hello,

I realize this topic was started a while ago. It seems like this issue might have been mostly sorted out but was wondering if people are still having this issue?

    Please let me know.

    Best,

Can you tell me what exact version o Android you're on and your SK version.

This is strange. Are you able to reproduce this issue by doing a set of actions or does it happen at random?

Please provide as much detail as possible.

    Cheers,

    Ryan

Sure I'm on android 5.0.1 and I have SK versions 5.1.2.75 and SK beta 5.2.0.93 installed.  Both do the same thing.  I can set them as default but soon after switching between apps the google keyboard reverts back (no set time period but neither hold long).  No errors or anything.  BTW..I'm stock but rooted.

If you find anything else out or uncover anything, please just fire it off in this thread. I've added all your info to the bug report.
