Hi Ive been using swiftkey for a while now and like it, however recently on a daily basis it drops out and the Samsung keyboard reappears?

It's starting to get tedious and I'm dropping swiftkey soon if it does not improve.

My phone is an S5 which m totally happy with.

Has anyone else had this problem??

    Roboflox,

Please be sure you read the forum titles. You posted in the IOS help section. I say this because if you're looking for help, posting in the wrong section will most likely lead to no one answering you. I have created a new thread with the issue being the topic.

Also, be sure you post questions about a topic in the right topic thread.

    best,

    Ryan

I was using Swiftkey happily until one day the Google kbd popped up instead. I tried re selecting the Swiftkey but it didn't work. I de installed SK then reinstalled. Now I cannot get beyond step 2 of the installer, both input method and keyboard are set to SK.

    What do I do next?

    Hi there mbrown205,

    Can you please tell me:

    Your device OS version

Are you running a custom rom?

Do you have any data managing apps like Greenify running?

    Best,

    Ryan

I lived with this same annoying problem for a long time until this morning. I moved the SwiftKey app installation from the memory card to device memory and the problem was instantly solved. I hope this helps.

As a rule of thumb I never move widgets or 'system apps' to the sd card. It limits functionality in quite a few fronts. Thanks for posting this solution Etuk U!

SwiftKey is not meant to be moved to the SD card. That could be the problem right there!

It's meant to stay on device memory.

A little background on moving apps to SD... If an app is to be loaded at boot (e.g. keyboard apps, apps with used widgets), it must be installed in the main storage. Mounting of the SD is one of the last operations done after boot up. Even after it is mounted, it can be quite some time before any of the apps are incorporated in to the list of installed apps.

If you find anything else out or uncover anything, please just fire it off in this thread. I've added all your info to the bug report.

I still have this issue but only when TitaniumBackup performs a backup of this app.

    Phone: Galaxy Note 4

    ROM:  4.4.4 (Stock Samsung ROM)

    SK: 5.2.2.124

When I upgraded from my S4 to Note 4, I installed SK on the Note 4 via the Play Store, then I used Titanium Backup to restore the app data as I wanted to maintain the Usage Stats.  Then I started to notice the issue of the keyboard reverting to the stock Samsung keyboard.  After reading this thread, I've tried rebooting, clearing the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling SK but everytime Titanium Backup tries to back SK, it reverts to the Samsung keyboard.

    Any ideas?

    Hey Azonic,

I'm familiar with that app but I don't use it. My guess it might be a similar issue. Perhaps TB is storing apps on the SD card as well? Do you not have the opportunity to move the apps saved location to a different section after restored from TB?

Might be work checking out their community if they have one about this as well.

    Best,

    Ryan

    Hi Prad,

Thanks for your response.  I'm very sure that SK was installed on the device memory (not SD Card) because when I go to Application Manager and select SK, I see the "Move to SD card" option is greyed out.  I use Titanium Backup to backup all my system and user apps to SD Card but this should not affect the operation of SK as I used to do this on my Samsung Galaxy S4 previously.

Anyway, I have solved the issue by using Titanium Backup to convert SK to a system app.  Unfortunately, I lost all my Usage Stats and predictions.  I guess I could use TB to restore the data, but am a bit hesitant to do so in case something stuffs up.

Think of Titanium Backup as a 'state save' protocol. Meaning the exact way the application was configured at the time of backup is the exact image that it will backup and restore.

With SwiftKey, this could cause issues. The protocol for the application, in my experience, changes with the device.

I would suggest installing the application from the play store, and eating the usage stats until SwiftKey development can attach those stats to the cloud.

Or you might be able to just find that folder and move it over from TB to SK. As Mike said, as of now, those stats are not saved. I wish I knew mine since getting the app back in 2010.

I too am having this same issue! It first started a couple of years ago, I believe, when I had SwiftKey installed on my LG G2 Android. I now have Samsung S4 running Android 4.4.2 & SK 5.2.2.124. I have not narrowed it down to when exactly it does revert to stock keyboard since I just install Swiftkey only a few weeks ago. Thanks in advance for any help!

@Kronos was right - in my case it seems that Greenify was definitely causing the issue. I removed SwiftKey from Greenify's list and all seems to be well.

Sadly, I emailed SwiftKey support THREE separate times over the last couple weeks, the final time pleading for some type of response! Nothing... Not a word. I let them know I have been a loyal user of the paid version for years. Didn't help a bit, still no reply at all.

    Hi there,

Good to hear you found out about the issue. We are currently backlogged on support due to having 'innovation week' through the entire company.

It's no excuse but we are getting around to responding to all tickets.

    Best,

    Ryan

Same problem here. Found out that Samsung power optimization closed the SwiftKey app and the reboot reverted the keyboard selection to Samsung's.

All you need to do is unselect the SwiftKey app for optimization.

    Regards

got my answer... using blu life xl with android 5.0.1 :

moved the swiftkey install to the ON PHONE not SD card and it works and stays default after reboot...

I had mine installed on the SD card and it would not keep the "default" after reboot.

    hope this helps

Sure, apps like keyboards should be installed on phone storage to have the best experience.

Good to hear you've sorted it out!
