Bluetooth External Keyboard - Multiple languages
As a language student, I have a need to type in multiple languages (five, to be exact), though I'm having trouble with my external Bluetooth keyboard. Though I can change the prediction language to Russian or Korean, I can't actually type the characters (remains typing with a US layout when I'd really like to be typing in the language I've changed to).
Hey Theodore,
We are currently refreshing the way we present the physical keyboard/Bluetooth settings, but in the meantime have you seen the following support article?
https://support.swiftkey.com/hc/en-us/articles/201591341-How-to-use-SwiftKey-with-physical-external-Bluetooth-keyboards-on-Android
The section 2) Change physical keyboard layout settings is perhaps most pertinent to your question here.
Take a look if you haven't already and feel free to drop me a line on here,
Matt
I also, still, have the similar problem. I am using 2 languages: English (US) and Ukraine with Bluetooth keyboard – Logitech K780.
When I press "Shift+Ctrl" to switch the language, it changes prediction and keys on the on-screen keyboard to the second language, but inputs are always in English.
As result, I cannot type anything in Ukraine (or any other language).
I have same issue - with russian/english switch on bluetooth keyboard. Ctrl+shift actually doesn't work. And i don't even have globus icon to change languages - i saw it, but then it just disapeared... though it didn't work when it was on the screen anyway.
I have to go to settings to switch languages.... seriously?!
Still having the same issue. Cannot switch between English and Korean with the external Bluetooth keyboard. Can't believe it's not fixed in year 2019...
I use fn+ins (the search icon located right beside the volume and ctrl+ins for emojis for Logitech K780 and it works fine.
Thank you for the info, I have Logitech K810 and FN+INS didn't work. It would be great if SwiftKey let me customize keys to switch languages like Dodol keyboard.
Just got the K780 and it was driving me crazy that I couldn't change from English to Greek with one button!!
Luckily, I found a workaround, but swiftkey, you should really really fix this as it's a no-go. I almost returned the keyboard as it's not worth having to change the language every time through the settings. So here goes for future reference.
As I realised i wasn't going to be able to change the keyboard language, while I was trying different key combinations, I realised that I could change the actual keyboard used.
So the idea is to change the keyboard, and have multiple keyboards with a different default language in each.
So in my LG V30 (Android 8 OREO) I did the following:
1. Connect the keyboard via bluetooth to the phone
2. Go to Settings -> System -> Language & Input -> Current keyboard , and enable more than one. For me it's "null keyboard" and "Swiftkey". You only need as many keyboards installed as languages used.
3. Go back to Language and Input, and select Physical keyboard. You will see a list of keyboards available.
4. Click on one of the keyboards, and select the first layout you want (e.g. English), then click the other keyboard and select your second language (e.g. Greek)
5. Now you can switch keyboards (and language) by typing start (alt for mac layout) + space.
Hope this helps someone!
