[Main Thread] Game mode / floating keyboard
Hey guys.
I've seen another post here, basically showing the same issue that I'm having recently.
I play Clash of Clans, and out-of-blue, my full-screen, landscape keyboard one day turned itself into a 'float'-ing keyboard, without allowing me to set it back to its original - landscape, full screen mode.
I have since then tried to clear the cache, re-install both Clash of Clans and Swiftkey, dig into the settings, restart the phone and pretty much do everything in my power and to my knowledge to try and troubleshoot the issue - nothing seems to have worked as the issue still persists.
What's strange is that it's only Clash of Clans where the issue persists, while the landscape, full screen mode work in any other app e.g.: Twitter, Google and so on - and it also has the options enabled to change it to my preferences.
Since I do not know about any work-around option, I just thought I'd post this here, perhaps other people having same issues could contribute saying which of the apps do not work properly for them - and maybe you could help the developers troubleshoot and fix it as soon as possible.
I have included a few screenshots with my issues.
Region: United Kingdom
Device: Google Pixel 2 XL (Android Oreo 8.1, 5 May Security Patch)
Clash of Clans version: 10.134.15
Swiftkey version: 7.0.6.26
PS: Changing the theme did not work and I have 3 language packs downloaded and used in QWERTY (English UK,US and Hungarian)
Thanks for the help.
Hello,
This is a new feature we are calling game mode. It auto detects when in the most popular gaming apps like the ones posted above.
We designed this so that you can continue to type while also being able to view the chat conversation.
Once you leave the chat area/game, the keyboard will revert back to normal.
We noticed it's not being received as well as we'd hoped.
Some of the top comments we are seeing are:
We are going to pull this feature in a future update to re-work on it. If we were to make changes, what would they be to make this feature more usable for you?
Best,
Ryan, SwiftKey Community Manage
For me I pulled the keyboard down towards the bottom of the screen and it went back to normal, hope that helps. Although you seem to have a different app almost, my floaty keyboard looks different but maybe it's a theme difference or something. Hopefully it works still.
Thank you for the recommendation.
I have just tried it a few million times, unfortunately it does not matter where I try and pull it down, up, right or left - it doesn't seem to solve the issue.
I went into the SwiftKey app and I had the same issue, though once I changed the Theme to an original one from SwiftKey, it become normal again. Strange. I think the issue is with the Theme 'engine' itself that makes the whole keyboard become corrupt and disable the user the change any settings (in terms of layout).
Thank you Ryan for confirming, appreciate the support!
I'm sad to see that the Swiftkey team allowed such an update, without properly informing their user base about it - not to mention that it was enabled by default without giving us an option to disable it.
Anyways, to answer your question, here are my opinions on this new feature:
Basically, a list view of all apps that users can tick in order to enable the 'float' option by default would be a great idea.
That's all I can think of right now, looking forward to see the update ASAP, and thank you for the reply.
Regards
Roland
Just to confirm, just received the latest update - it's back again as before.
Issue solved, thanks for the help and hope my feedback will be considered for this new feature.
For anyone new following this thread, this feature has been pulled from market and will be pulled from the next beta update.
We are collecting feedback on how to make this better.
So if you have any ideas, please do let us know.
return it. I love to use it specially in Mobile Legends. give us the option to enable or disable it pleae
